I have to tell everyone I know and don't know
Rainer Ptacek
produces wonderful music, well made, craftsman guitarist.
Everything I have heard him play (apart from some live recordings on YouTube and they aren't bad) is just wonderful
Go and hear everything he ever made - you will love it
Also look out for Rainer and Das Combo. That's how I found him courtesy of Andy Kershaw

This seems to be the right place for this. Let me know if not

I've moved into "Musical Compositions" Mike which is more appropriate.

Sad story of Rainer - will look out for his music (nothing on Spotify, unfortunately.)

And here we are
Just worked out I gave up on Spotify - as I haven't used it in ages
Sampling for me, in order, amazon.com, allmusic.com, youtube.com, occasionally discogs.com. I occasionally get stuck on youtube as there are complete tracks so you can listen to a complete album. Any of the above usually convinces me to buy or not buy.
Currently listening to The Farm. I prefer electric to acoustic guitar - usually. This guy could make anything sound great

I'd never heard of him, Mike, but a quick YouTube has whetted my appetite. Which album would you recommend for starters?

I love the music of Rainer Ptacek myself, and have been listening to his albums for many years.

Some of my favorites:

Live at the Performance Center

Listen to "Improv in E" and "Di Lantin" on this, just beautiful. Also a cover of "Within You, Without You" and "Funny How Time Slips Away".

Alpaca Lips

"Pastime Paradise", "The Good Book".

Worried Spirits

"Life Is Fine", "Long Long Way to the top of the World".

This music's quality sinks in over time, so immerse yourself.

Rainer and Das Combo- The Texas Tapes
Rainer - Nocturnes
Rainer Live at the performance Centre

I only just got The Farm, Alpaca Lips, Westwood Sessions, Barefoot Rock - courtesy of one seller on Ebay - and have played them once only. The first 3 seem stronger than Barefoot Rock
probably anything. I have not yet been disapointed with any

He got so much out of an acoustic guitar. Sometimes you have to reboot :-)
Reminds me of what Eric said about Robert Johnson - paraphrase "it is so difficult to play what he was doing as it is like 2 guitars"
