View Full Version : Wanted Garrard 401/Plinth/Tonearm
Am looking for a Garrard 401/plinth & tonearm (preferably sme)
Ideally would like to buy as a full package
Preferably fully serviced & in excellent condition
Can collect in the north
Isn't there a nice one for £1500 or so on ebay at the moment?
We're generous souls here, but even we aren't a charity you know
I have seen that does look nice but a bit above my budget I am afraid..
Have a look at Russ Collinson - Layers of beauty - for ideas and costs of a bespoke plinth - not as much as you'd think I believe and a fraction of the price of a Bastin one (a favourite of mine). 401's in good order don't usually have to cost many hundreds more than £500 do they? and there's a nicely priced SME Series 2 "Unimproved" detachable arm on here right now if you jump quick enough :)
Good luck, and welcome :)

PLEASE grab this arm if you want a vintage SME to use with a Garrard and possibly a wide range of cartridges. I have NO contact with the seller at all by the way..

I have a fixed head 3009 awaiting one part to make it work (exit cable plug) and I'd like to give it some use before passing it on, if ever...
Have decided to hold off looking for the moment so I can save up for one of Audiograil's 401,s
I'd still buy that SME.......

They're beautiful but very expensive. I have a nw analogue serviced and plinthed 401 that you're welcome to see and hear. My advice; buy a motor unit, send to Dom for the works and ask for a price for the works and a slate plinth. You wouldn't regret that purchase, I know!

I have a 401 in a wood plinth if you're interested. No arm though.
