Hi all,
I am not a regular poster here but have a couple of items for sale that may interest members.
I have a couple of modded Arcam Alpha 5 CD players, one is an Alpha 5 and one an Alpha 5 plus. As many on here know, these players feature the legendary CDM9 transport and 1541 DAC chip beloved of audiophiles. However, the story goes that the stock Alpha 5 failed to release the potential of these components.
There are several companies out there now modding Alpha 5's for £300 or more, Avondale for example. The modifications done on my players have been performed by a professional who has 20 plus years experience and still uses a modded Alpha 5 as his system source - he has never found anything better including players costing several £ thousands.
Both my players were clean and good condition from the start. As well as the mods, both have had genuine new loading mechanisms fitted, original parts not modern Chinese equivalents.
The Alpha 5 plus is possibly a bit nicer than the Alpha 5 with a brighter display. I have also found the Alpha 5 can be slow to read disc information sometimes - does not affect performance.
Needless to say, they sound amazing. Looking for £175 for the Alpha 5 and £200 for the Alpha 5 plus (plus postage). A complete bargain since a check on e-bay I have just done shows good un-modded, un-serviced examples going for close to £100.
