I'd love to know what the pixel resolution is, and what size and sensitivity the sensor is/has. I imagine that you'd be looking at a 8-10 meg file size per shot, so I'd expect it to be pretty slow in use.

The other problem is that it is Symbian-based, so unless you're a die hard Nokia fan it seems like a strange launch now.

It's 41Mega pixels :eek:. Yes, that is not a misprint.

I know that the Symbian OS is not highly rated when compared to today's other offerings, but the OS does lend itself to quite some excellent apps and security benefits.

All that puts me off is that it's not running Android.

Hopefully HTC will respond with something very photography friendly. :)

HTC's next offering is going to be the One X, 5.3 inch HD touch screen 1.5ghz quad core CPU, but only an 8meg camera i'm afraid Mark :( to be honest though phone cameras are a bit limited and really only any good for taking snaps so i would say that 41meg is a bit of overkill, i mean when was the last time you printed a photo taken from your phone anyway:scratch:

Been looking at the newer HTC's, as I'm due an upgrade soon. Very tempted by the Galaxy Nexus though, first phone with Android 4.0.

Do a read up on the technology and how it is being used by Nokia. They are not using it to make a 41Meg picture, but to make a sharp picture of a lower resolution by harvesting the usefulness of the extra megs of picture resolution. It also allows them to implement a digital zoom that does not suffer from any picture quality loss.
The technology that Nokia implemented is already being looked at as a solution to some previously unsolved barriers in digital picture taking possibilities. My feeling is that Nokia should make a proper digital camera with this technology, instead of only using it in a phone. If you hook this 41Meg sensor to a compact camera it would revolutionize that market sector.

I've got to say that I'm very impressed by the PQ of the samples, and the detail level in the crops is amazing for a camera phone.

I'd love to see this sensor techology used in a decent DSLR with nice glass.
