I'm always impressed at the knowledge and helpful advice on this forum, so, shameless arse licking over, here we go....

I have two double sockets within reach of my system. In one socket I have a Tacima six way plugged in for everything part from my mono amps. The amps are plugged direct into the other double socket.

Problem I have is that I'm adding two more mono power amps for a biamped set-up and don't want to plug amps into the Tacima for obvious reason (ie they sound shite). So what do I do?

I've spent a fortune lately not just on hifi but on my other passion which is cycling (if you think hifi is expensive try buying a state of the art carbon fibre racing bike) so I want a reasonably cost effective solution but not a cheap bodge.

The two double sockets are bog standard double switched sockets so, from what I've gleaned on here, both of these should be changed but to what?

Should I keep the Tacima? It seems good, apart from amps, but maybe there's an alternative.

I guess the amps should be plugged into four single sockets but what type of sockets? Could I just run a feed from the double socket and fix four single sockets on some sort of wooden block? If so what do I connect with between wall socket and individual sockets? I can do the work myself and get a mate who is an electrician to run the rule over it.

I'm already using very good mains plugs on every item of equipment.

Over to the experts and many thanks in advance.

shameless plug, no pun intended

can be supplied with these options:-

furutech rhodium plated sockets

furutech gold plated sockets

MCRU silver plated sockets

MCRU rhodium plated sockets

oak mains block with built in dc blocker designed by Nick Gorham

available in 2, 4, 6 or 8 way versions

does not strangle power amps, you can even have a 4 way version connected to one wall socket just for your amps and a seperate 4 way version to the other socket for the rest of your gear

the unit can be supplied with an IEC inlet to connect your own mains lead
or cable hard wired into the unit

the possibilities are endless

Rob, your suggestion puts you in second place at the moment.

Any thoughts anyone?

No thoughts? No advice? No help? Was it something I said?

Well.....your user name might put off those with a more "delicate" constitution from giving an answer. If you suck those sort of "Lemons", any advice might be taken in the wrong way:eek:

I would do what you suggested. Change to 4 un-switched (MK?) sockets. You could use surface mount plastic housings attached to the wall.

Have thought about this?

I’m not going to bother providing single links because you wont do this and you’ll probably get some nice looking audiophile crap with plated this and plated that and be very happy.
Chuck the Tacima in the rubbish.
Get a dedicated mains installed.
The best plug is no plug.
If you have to have a plug then better without a fuse. Of course you need to make sure your kit is properly fused.
Same applies to sockets, no switch, no fuse.

Build yourself a mains distribution block out of some ply or something similar.
Solder all the connections at wall socket, in plugs and in distribution block.
Get rid of any IEC sockets on your kit and solder decent mains cable directly.
I’ve recently redone mine with a load of 30 amp studio mains plugs much like those in the link.

Oh arr. Why did I change from my domestic 30 amp round pin? Got sick of changing plugs when I borrow my mates pro audio kit ;)

Hi John. Thanks for your thoughts. I'd love a dedicated mains but it would cause far too much domestic upheaval I'm afraid.

I love the fact that you've already made your mind up that I'm shallow and easily led by writing this "I’m not going to bother providing single links because you wont do this and you’ll probably get some nice looking audiophile crap with plated this and plated that and be very happy."

Sorry to piss on your fish and chips but I have no intention of buying and audiophile crap as you call it. I've just bought eight MK single unswitched sockets and am doing the job today. I'm hoping it brings the desired results.

As for the Tacima, lots of people like them. I'm insure. When I get the new sockets in, I'll have a listen, trust my ears and if the Tacima isn't bringing anything to the party it will be ditched.

Thanks again for your input.

Hi Martin. I've been following your exploits with these and would love to try one. My knowledge is very sparse on these things. How much would a decent one cost me? Which would you recommend?

Eight single sockets done. Nice neat row. Kit back in place. Wife out for the day until very late. Beer in the fridge, Indian curry sorted. Happy days.

Jeff, it's a long story but I actually did. Suck Mandelson's lemons that is. Rest assured I went nowhere near his plums. What a despicable man.

Anything between 700 and 1000 notes for a good used PS Audio Powerplant Premier. Anything new is going to cost you buckets more.

Wise man? I'm confused. Don't you sell fancy mains distribution blocks, expensive plugs, fuses made of the rarest snake oil, snazzy sockets etc etc? Or did I miss a huge dollop of irony or a great joke?

I'm still not sure if I missed a joke but never mind. The eight single sockets are up and running. System sounds great although I haven't had chance to put the Tacima in and out of the equation to listen intently.

So much Tacima Bashing! Very happy with mine, just don't plug an amp into it.
