Grado SR80.

Just dug out my old SR80s and playing them again. These headphones still continue to amaze me with their musicality.

I'm using normal spoitify and have the Grado plugged into my laptop. Nothing great but sounds decent.

I use an old Headroom total bithead between my laptop and SR80's,makes quite a lot of difference.It's fun to dig them out of the drawer from time to time..

I was 1 pair of cans short at Bristol so went downstairs and bought some SR90's, excellent indeed!

Next step up from the SR 80 is the SR125.
I have heard the line and owned the SR80 and SR325i
I wish I had spent for the RS1 because the SR325i is unlike anything above or below it.
It dose have nice mid bass but the top end is dramatically tipped up they just are uncomfortably bright even with a tube headphone amp.and I ran them in like crazy, before finally giving up on them mellowing I hooked them up to a stereo tuner and let them run for over a month with out turning them off in side a drawer in what was then a spare room. After 40+ days they just developed a little more bass but the top end never got any mellower. The SR80's are the best bang for the buck as non of the SR line really sound stage much.
The RS1 is a far better pair of cans but much priceyer. I have not heard anything above that in the continued line up.Example the GS1000 or PS1000 but i'm open if anyone local has a pair.

My experience with the (non-'i' version) SR325 seems very different to yours Jeff. I found them right from the word go, to be a fantastically revealing tool, allowing me to hear way, way into the mix of a recording. It seems that maybe what you heard as brightness, I heard as treble detail. Or maybe the 'i' version was way different to the ones I had?
Hamish has them now - I sold them because I didn't need to use them anymore.

I had the ones they no longer make, the gold color SR325i now they make the SR325is they also made a SR325 and alot of people preferred them.
I liked mine for a couple of songs at a time but found my self reaching for the old Superex pro B pretty fast.
Sometimes they felt like a killer bee attack inside my ears! other recordings where ok. Terrible for Rock and some jazz.
The best they ever sounded was with classical music.

Bass wise they are a little light at the moment but i'm assured they will loosen up - Grado don't recommend you leaving them on constantly to achieve this loosening up. Full review to come in a short while.

Leaving them on was already after considerable break in time,it was a last ditch effort.
And the drivers in the SR325is have been tamed down some,they must have felt it was a needed improvement or they wouldn't have done it. Seems people preferred the original SR325 to the SR325i and the SR325 was selling at a premium from most dealers till they ran out,then you had a choice of the SR225 or SR 325i and more people where staying with the SR225 so they made a change to the drivers.
I have talked with Jhon Grado and he experiments a lot before putting something out for sale,can you just imagine the piles of experimental stuff laying around his basement?
I love the grado sound but the SR325i was just a little to much for me.
