Collecting mostly Soul, Jazz, world music & some other genre since the late 70s. In 1990 decided to start doing some DJ work, and discovered about a year after starting that another fellow had exactly the same name as me, so needed to make a change (so as not to mix us both up, he also by chance played soul).
A few of my fellow vinyl collector friends at the time said I always had the good vibes (when referring to the music I played), so inserted G.V. in between my name (Mark GV Taylor).
I am getting on now, but still play out when the right sort of gig comes up, shall be playing 23rd March at a party for the director of the Gijon Film Festival in Gijon, Spain.
I also do a monthly two hour web-radio programme called 'The Happy Jazz Show' for the last ten years with a friend, mixing up jazz, soul, world music and even a little bit of new style stuff with a beat (that still uses some real musicians).
Told about this forum from member Ledzep (Dan), from whom I just purchased a Technics 1210 MKII turntable with some upgrades added to it. So that makes a total of three of these decks I now own (two standard, and one with tweaks), plus a Townshend Rock turntable...:mental: :D

Hello Mark,
Welcome to the Art of Sound. So what are all of those turntables plumbed into then, in the way of amps & speakers?

Thank you for the welcome guys...

I have a Musical Fidelity P270-II amplifier, Musical Fidelity MVT Pre Amp, Marantz Cd-63 Audio Excellence CD Player/Pioneer PDR-609 CD Recorder, Triangle Ventis 222 speakers, and various poncy (though not too costly) cable/wires.

Oh, and around 4000/4500 records!

Mark

Hi Mark and a warm welcome from me to the AOS; you will love it here!

The Ventis is one truly magnificent speaker and so so underrated. Still have mine (Ventis XS), unfortunately packed in the basement due to a tweeter mishap - but I still refuse to let them go. Really entertaining and magic in the right system. I am sure you are enjoying them as much as I did..
Happy listening!

Yes, around 4,500 vinyl, and around 500 CDs

I've actually ran out of room for storing the records....LOL!

Hi Mark, welcome from me too - ex DJ as well, but you'd more likely hear Agadoo than Aretha from me!

Give us a shameless plug for your show - found a reference or two on the web but not the actual show - none of the links here (http://www.brownswood.co.uk/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/226/happy-jazz-show-january-2012/p1) seem to work - for instance. Your show looks interesting and I'm sure a few of us will give it a listen. :)

Hope you enjoy AoS. :)
