I mentioned in another thread related to gotye, that the lady in that video was an artist in her own right. Well, here are a couple of youtube videos featuring her. I find the quirky pop refreshing and I think she has a voice something like Julie Feeney with maybe a bit of Bjork thrown in?

Enjoy..

I think she's got an excellent voice, but the songs are a bit 'poppy' for me.

I'd like to hear her perform arrangements which are more sparse and 'moody', and thus showcase her voice more, perhaps by her producing more of a ballad? Has she released any material like that? :)

Basically, a stripped-back acoustic arrangement that makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck and gives you goose bumps, which I think her superb voice is capable of doing, rather than it being drowned out somewhat by that rather cheesy 'poppy dance beat'.

Marco I do not disagree with you with regard to the actual songs, they are as I said 'quirky pop' but she has a brilliant voice. It is just a shame that these days the only way to get any airplay is be just that. I hope she does release something with a bit more substance as she sounds fab.

I totally agree, Steve. More substance (and sophistication) is precisely what is needed, regarding the type of music she performs. Great voice though, and she is rather easy on the eye! ;)

Steve if you haven't already, try this young lady - Charlene Soraia - from the "BRIT School" but don't let that put you off... Her debut album "Moonchild" is rather fine, but she got her break with this version of The Calling song Wherever You May Go - (used in an ad for Twinings Tea, apparently?) :

Here's another one from the album - according to Wikipedia* she is very prog influenced (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlene_Soraia)... (*must be true, then...)

And here she is "live" (loads more on YT) :

I don't think this will be the last you hear of her... :)

Thanks Alex, she sounds great. what is BRIT school?

what is BRIT school?

It is the UK's "FAME" - basically - sponsored by the record industry to churn out saleable stars* - notable alumni include Adele, Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, Katie Melua etc. etc... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BRIT_School

* my cynical view only, not necessarily the actuality of the situation!

Ah right thanks Alex. I do not like Katie Melua, Amy whinehouse or Adele. Not saying they are no good on their own right, just that I do not like their music. I can see the value in those sorts of programs though, as they do occasionally discover a diamond in the rough, but it is a shame that a lot of the time the said talent is lost to a money grabbing media mogul who cares little about artisitc merit and more about the size of his next yacht..

PS that was my little bit of cynicism for the day.

"Fame! I wanna live for ever.... well not quite is some cases..."

Awesome, Alex - Charlene Soraia's music is much more my cup of tea, and exactly what I described earlier! You must've been listening ;)

What a beautiful and enchanting voice! I'll defo be buying some of her stuff. Nice one, dude
