Sound still coming through when mute button is on

Just noticed that music still comes through when the mute button is on on my Technics SU VX800 Integrated amplifier. Gets louder when volume increased. Does anyone know why or what this means :scratch: ?? http://www.classic-audio.com/technics-suvx800-p-785.html

Maybe the mute just reduces the gain substantially. Some do. Perfectly normal.

Couldn't say for sure without having a shuftie at a manual, but mute should at least quieten it from a normal volume to summat pretty quiet.
