Morning all

Just a quickie does the DL 160 work in the standard technics arm on an SL 1210 Mk2 as I have the chance of buying one secondhand.

If it does are they a good cart?, I originally was looking for a DL 110 but an offer has come along on one of these.

Any help much appreciated

Yes it works just fine in the Techie arm , I still have my 160 though it's a bit worn out .

Cheers guys as always for the info, however I have been looking at the compliance of this cart and dont think my modded EAR 834 phono is going to be compatible so in an about turn Ive just gone and brought a Grado Prestige Gold

Nooo, I went from Prestige Gold to DL160, the Denon was much more enjoyable.

It probably is but I dont think my phono is going to work with it, if it don't work there is always the classifieds

I prefer the DL-160 to the Prestige Gold, having owned both. I don't understand the incompatibility with the EAR 834 phono stage - both cartridges are high output.

I read it somewhere on the internet whilst doing a bit of digging, maybe its the lower output of the cart compared to the Grado.

Im no expert on these matters by any means and I might buy the DL 160 to go with the Grado, I can always sell it one if it doesnt work out

Grado Prestige Gold output 5mV
Denon DL-160 output 1.6mV

This may suggest that the Denon will be very much quieter, but in practice I don't remember the volume difference being very much.

This could be the reason(found on another website)

, Jerry Raskin also measures 2.2mV output in the DL160, quite a bit more than the 1.6mV claimed by Denon. I have gain to burn as well, and only slightly less output than the 8MR.

For the time being Im going to stick with the Grado once it gets here, I originally wanted a DL 110 to try out but was offered a DL 160 at a higher price than what a DL 110 would sell for.

If the Grado is no use then I will sell it on and hunt down a 110 or even a 160

The main criticism i would level at the DL160 is it has a rather plummy bass and compared to more expensive genuine MC's it can sound a little coarse but its a very enjoyable cartridge , the DL110 is probably the better buy ?

Thats what I thought after reading the reviews, I still have a wnated ad for a DL 110 and if one comes along at the right price I will grab it
