I was trawling through ebay looking for some more speakers, and came across these

and i was wondering what apart from the drive units was the difference between them and the speakers i already have

B&W DM220i - very efficient - about £200 in their time
Don't know the MS's though

They both seem to hail from the same period - the B&W slightly earlier? with a two-and-a-half way bass-mid loading and a hard-dome tweeter on the top. The B&W's were well presented, although I think it was the 500 series with metal dome tweeter I really liked. 'Choice recommended the B&W 220, which may be the immediate predecessor of the ones pictured. The only MS models from sort-of this era I know were the excellent MS20's, which bettered the established HB1's and KEF Coda II/III in combining the best of both presentation styles - I don't know the bigger ones I'm afraid..

Whichever you go for, my recommendation would be not to spend too much on them. I'd try to add some Celestion DL6 or DL8 to the list as well :)

MS45Ti's mate, they look uncannily similar don't you think

I've already got the MS's it was more that one had copied the other or they were a joint venture, even the bass and midrange drivers look similar

The B&W's were current in '87/8. The late 'i' version was identical to the non-'i' version except that there was a gasket behind the tweeter (I knew people who worked for B&W at the time).

A friend has a pair of the floorstanding b&ws but with the red trim.
The tweeter is soft dome.
They sound ok with his nad.
For £60 to 80 there an ok buy.

Yeah, the 'walnut' finish had red rings round the woofers & the 'ash' ones had the blue.
A soft dome it was indeed.

Stuart: The 'DM330' had red trim too

The 330's had more volume to the cabinet (another few inches in height). The drivers were identical to the 220's.
See my note above about the red & blue rings though Andre.

Yes he has the 330.
I did have the 220 with the stand sometime ago.
