USB cable length

I've up until now been using an el cheapo USB cable (ie one I've had sat in a drawer for years) for m pooter audio but it's only 0.75m in length. Would really like to get a decent cable - not megabucks (ie sub 40 quid or so) - but certainly much longer length so I can put the MacBook on a shelf a few feet away from the hifi rack, and not have to leave it on the floor. Would probably want a 2metre cable.

Anyone know of any issues using longer USB cables? Does this go against any particular hifi grain etc? I use it for my printer, but that's always sounded crap. :D

If it prints OK (i.e. letter perfect) it will sound OK :D.

I've tried all manner of USB leads, long, short, cheap, gold pated etc. Can honestly say I've found no discernable difference in quality but then i may not be sufficiently golden eared for them.

In fact the biggest benefit i've found to improving USB audio quality recently was adding a USB2ISO galvanic isolator to my PCs usb output to reduce unwanted noise. I think as long as you're not experiencing grounding problems then any reasonable quality cable will do.

USB cable spec says 5m max.
I wouldn't bother with some of the more expensive cables out there, not unless you enjoy being relieved of your hard earned folding stuff.

Thanks chaps - I'll most likely just get myself some generic USB cable, and that one from Maplin looks like it'll be just the job. :)

Just make sure its well made and a genuine USB2 cable.
I have the Maplin one and its fine.
Belkin Pro Gold are also good.
