I often have to restrain myself from looking at that Martin - he has so much great stuff on there & is apparently often able to respond positively & supply in response to enquiries about items and brands that don't feature on his Ebay pages. It's always worth asking or so I hear.

My cartridge / headshell storage box arrived this afternoon, took a while to unwrap, it was that well packed, recommended and I would use his shop again.

Yes, we pay import duty and tax. That has to be factored in to the prices.

Thanks Martin. Given his prices that would still come short of their retail prices in the EU; not Greece obviously as they tend to charge import duties of 40-60% of the cartridge's price in Greece....Sigh....

Good idea but not legal, unfortunately. I've often wondered if something better and nearer to being legal might be possible. Like someone in th UK buying the item (paid for in advance by the guy in Greece with a non-refundable pre-payment) and it then being taken into Greece by a UK holiday maker and posted internally in Greece to the ultimate customer?
Obviously it might be a bit of a problem with a pair of floorstanders ;) but a cartridge should not present any logistic problems.
The ultimate customer would need to pay any duty charged by UK Customs before the item left the UK - in the event of failure to do so the UK buyer retains ownership of the item to dispose of as he sees fit.
Certain amount of trust involved but it could perhaps be made to work with good will on both sides.
Any thoughts?

Most sellers in SE Asia and the USA are strict about customs declarations and for good reason as it is indeed illegal and potentially problematic (both ends). Sometimes, it's pure luck of the draw; 3-4 years ago I bought some heavy-expensive cables from Australia - came straight through, no import taxes or duties. Three weeks later, bought an additional pair - they charged me the full amount! I have heard similar stories from people here importing stuff, particularly cartridges, from Asia. Go figure.
As for proposal, the issue is just clearing UK customs. You can ship anything to Greece and no additional charges apply after that (well as long as Greece remains in the EU).

Yes, he has got some very desirable items there.

FWIW, anything we buy from the east, including Australia, is always delivered to my company address, and is marked Delicate - Laboratory Standard (or Item) or for my wife's items, Delicate - Clinical Standard (or Item) which is all true. This is more for handling purposes. We have only been charged once on imported items, a specialist heat lamp that was not marked Clinical Item.

I would never ask the sender to mark down the declared value, which wouldn't help any insurance claim I suspect. Insuring a cart. for £500 with a declared value of £100 looks iffy to me.

One guy I knew a long time ago, would always pay say £100 of a £500 fee for the item, and have a receipt for such. The subsequent fee of £400 was then paid separately as Consultation fee, Testing fee, Shipping fee, Packaging fee and Administration fees again with a separate invoice. Sometimes it also included a Finders fee. I don't know how he stood legally with Customs, but on the surface seems legit enough, although appears there is still collusion to defraud. Would need a legal mind to sort that out.
