Just thought I would drop in and let everyone know how my journey is about to begin.
Parts gathered so far:
SL1210M5G
KABUSA Arm damper
DL 103 Pro
Sumiko Headshell
Achromat
Jelco SA 750 D Tonearm to be used at a later date once I have had my fill of the stock arm

Parts waiting to bought when pay day arrives:
Mike New bearing
Mike New base plate
Jelco Arm plate
Seperate PSU I would like some input from all the Guru's out there....

How bigs your wallet, PSU's can start at a couple of hundred quid to a couple of thousand. I'm selling my TimeStep HE PSU if your interested, just send me a PM and I'll give you a good price!

Possibly the most affordable PSU is the Vantage . I prefer it to the Timestep by a country mile ! Good value at £225.

Sadly I have not got it up and running yet, I was collecting all the bits and was going to build it up listening for the difference after each mod.

I'm also in a similar position, I'm waiting for a KAB fluid damper, and then I'll go on a modding spree... In the end I'll have Sl1210 MkII with M5G tonearm, Vantage feet, Mains Cables 'R' Us power supply, removed pitch fader, switchable strobe, Reso-mat with stainless steel diy mat... And eventually a nice wooden frame.

And then I'll have to think about better cartridge. And phono preamp, better than installed in XTZ A100 D3 integrated amp. And maybe upgraded bearing... :scratch:

I know this is controversial here but I think if you go beyond a certain expenditure or propose to do so you should look at the off-the-shelf alternatives especialy at 3K and above. There are even a couple of DD models available for those who mistakenly believe all belt drives suffer from audible speed instability.:sofa:

It depends on your dedication and whether you do the mods yourself. I'm well past £5k and I've heard nothing commercial off-the-shelf that can touch it.

At the risk of shilling my own product, the SA-750D really does benefit from a decent mounting collar. The Jelco arm is worth it, being in my experience very much better than the standard arm. There are much better arms, of course, but not at the Jelco's price point.

When you get it up and running so to speak , i would love to know how you think it compares to your LP12 set up :) I ask this purely as an ex LP12 man me self , not funny games or whatever , just interested , i used to have Lingo/cirkus/tramp1 with Ekos/troika .
