Heading out to Glasgow at the end of the month, and for the first time I'll be bringing my golf clubs.

I've set aside two days in St Andrews, but I'll also be able to make a day trip out of Glasgow via train.

I know the "big name" courses, but I'm wondering if there are any gems that are under-the-radar. I'd prefer links courses but will take whatever recommendations I can get.

I think I'll try Carnoustie if I don't hear any other recommendations.

Many thanks

If you can extend your stay in St.Andrews, I'd recommend Balcomie (http://www.crailgolfingsociety.co.uk/) in Crail. When I stayed in St.Andrews, this was the course I played most.

You could also have a trawl through this (http://www.top100golfcourses.co.uk/htmlsite/country.asp?id=3) website.

Others I've enjoyed playing and may be easier to reach if you're based in Glasgow are,

Turnberry.

(http://www.top100golfcourses.co.uk/htmlsite/productdetails.asp?id=78) Glasgow Gailes (http://www.top100golfcourses.co.uk/htmlsite/productdetails.asp?id=140)

and

Barassie. (http://www.top100golfcourses.co.uk/htmlsite/productdetails.asp?id=178)

I'm primarily staying in Glasgow but will travel anywhere, weather permitting.

Thanks for the tips
