Hi to all.

I've been registered for quite a while, but now have (finally) moved to a house with the best upgrade ever ... a dedicated listening room! In my 20s I was an electronics design engineer, and now, some 30 years later I feel the pull of the soldering iron again, and this looks like a good place to find like-minded individuals.

Music taste is mainly jazz and prog-rock ... there, I said it ... and most everything else, with the sole exception of the Thai elephant orchestra, who are even less talented than me. My brother once (accurately) described my musical taste as being 'catholic, bordering on indiscriminating' ... so, a large collection of discs, too.

I've been swapping boxes since 1995 and, looking around the room, I seem to have a rega cd player, SME turntable, a couple of EAR preamps, and four power amps, two of which I suppose I should sell. Oh, and a nice pair of Neat speakers.
Strangely, I don't have a camera at the moment, and my phone is rubbish, so you'll have to wait for photos.

Bordering on indiscriminating is a rather fine place to be when it comes to music. However, it looks like you've shown quite the opposite trait in selecting The Art of Sound!

Actually, what got me interested in the forum was my first visit to Scalford last year, when late in the day I wandered into the AoS room and was truly impresssed with the sounds there. At the time, I assumed 'Art of Sound' was some sort of commercial concern that had somehow snuck in past James on the door, although the characters lurking in the room didn't really look or sound like typical salesmen, with the obvious exception that they seemed eager to promote Croft amplifiers to anyone who'd listen! Anyway, a bit of digging on the net led me here. Good work from those tending the room that day ... shame you're not there this year.

Nothing wrong with having broad tastes in music. "Bordering on the indescriminate"? Sounds good to me - maybe you have some albums you could add to our 'Skeletons in the Cupboard' thread. :lol:

Yes ... that's them! If you enjoy the noise, it'd probably be good to buy one of their CDs, as I believe some money goes to their conservation effort (I think there are only about 2500 now left in captivity in that part of the world).

Glad you enjoyed the system we put together last year. The heart of it was mostly the gear I use at home (modded Technics SL-1210/modded Croft Charisma-X preamp/Tube Distinctions Copper KT88-based valve amp/Celestion Ditton Studio 66s), ably supplemented by a modded Acoustic Precison Eikos CDP and gorgeous and sonically stunning Nagra reel-to-reel tape deck, the latter belonging to Nick (Beechwoods), my co-Administrator here.

You probably met me in the room. I'd have been the big guy who was likely championing the Croft kit! :D

Nope, we won't be there this year, but look out for us next year hopefully doing our own show! Anyway, enjoy the forum and have fun :cool:
