Ok heres a new one for everyone,im looking for a a long rack that i can put Turntable,pre,power,cdp,dvd player,sky box,but really must be wood,be solid,3 shelves high and have good isolation properties and cheap,any recommendations please

Well, how about something in solid oak (http://www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk/furniture/nero-solid-oak-e-display-unit/174.html)? Not 'cheap', but not 'expensive' either.

My in-laws have just bought from this company, and the quality is exquisite. If we didn't have a gaggle of children racing around the house (or destructive pets) we'd be tempted with some of the furniture.


Sorry - this is a tall stand, not wide. :doh:

Jeez Dan, how long is long, how deep are the shelves? Enough for the Corgi collection perhaps?

Solid wood as in one piece is heading into very expensive and rare territory IME.

If you are talking glued block board, this can be had as 22mm thick pine or 30something mm beech I think 2m x 600mm max. Pine should be about 20quid a sheet, but is light and not so rigid without close space supports or longitudinal ribs. Beech is no problem to 1m support spacing and beyond, and is very heavy.The beech boards I have seen built using beech component parts for stairs as posts and standoffs.:D
Have seen hardwood worktops for kitchens in two types of very dark exotic wood up to about 2.2m x 600mm max with a bullnose edge for under 100. Looks stunning... Think the beech was about the same price per sheet/board.
My favourite was a simple two shelf 2m long affair using two very dark wood kitchen worktops with solid yellowish limestone blocks acting as floor supports and shelf spacers, assembly in ten minutes and looked drop dead gorgeous.:cool:
In all 3 cases, I think they were of german manufacture.
