Looks good :) The 303 could be hidden with longer interconnects if you wanted and, since they run so cool, ventilation shouldn't be a problem.

It's a stock NOS SME 3009 II improved that I have had rewired and RCA sockets fired by J7 at Audio Origami. I'm running a NOS AKG P8ES SuperNova in it and contemplating fitting a fluid damper (FD 200) when I find one at the right price.

You've done a lovely job on the woodwork Steve. I Have JR150's in my backup system and I will NEVER part with them. Did you do any work on the crossovers or are they original?

Thanks Ian - after getting the 149's fired up I've been trawling for a pair of JR 150's with a view to putting them in system 1 for a time but they seem rare as hen's teeth.

Regarding the crossovers they appear to be early Mk 1 16 ohm type without fuse all I have done is replace the existing Elcap capacitors with new Alcaps from Falcon Acoustics and solder the 4 speaker wires direct to the crossover instead of using the little push on plugs.

Rare is an understatement, When I saw a mint pair for sale I nearly bit the guys arm off. I've thought myself about getting the crossovers done, but they not accessible in the way the 149's are.

I know you have just replaced the foam but If you can, keep a lookout for some ribbed foam, they look so much better than the plain IMO

Yes I agree. There's currently some on eBay but to be honest I think the chap's having a bit of a laugh regarding price/postage. I've had an email from Graham Hartle who runs one of the JR 149 websites and sources new ribbed foams - I'm hoping to be able to get a pie ext month hen he has new tick.

Oh bloody 'ell fellas. JR149's and 150's were good for their time, but they were never regarded as reference grade in the manner of BC1's or KEF104ab's, let alone Rogers Studio 1's or even the later LS7's... What stood the JR models apart was the cute cylindrical looks, the tube enclosure offering a "different" but not "better" kind of internal resonance pattern to deal with as I remember. I do know BOTH models and remember that both ideally needed the matching sub to give them anything like a full frequency range :) Enjoy them by all means, but PLEASE don't lust after some 150's. DM2a's or 104ab's would do me fine instead :D

I'd like to hear some properly restored AR3a's/10 pi's, or even go mad and hear some now huge LST's, which were very rare in the UK...

I'm also on the lookout for a JR Sub (active or passive) to partner the 149's but have never seen any come up for sale :doh:

Ah but neither Steve or I regard them as main speakers and I doubt either of us consider them as the best you can get for the money or anywhere near it TBH. That doesn't mean we don't love them for what they are "damned cute" with a nice sound, albeit with a limited range. I personally wouldn't go for the JR sub as placing it would prove problematic. But I have just ordered a BK XLS200 sub for the 150's. Although they do go down to 50hz which is fine for the type of music I listen to I'm hoping the additional bass will give them a bit more of a a rounded/fuller sound. My main speakers don't need a sub, so if it doesn't work I'm sure I can sell it on pretty quick without losing to much money.
