View Full Version : Whitney Houston dead at 48
Another taken too early.
She was found dead by fellow entertainer Ray J at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. No other details are available.
UPDATE: Now Ray J’s publicist is saying he was nowhere near the hotel.
UPDATE: Per CNN, Bobby Brown is “hanging in there.” He’s just “devastated, struggling.” “Everyone is in complete shock.” Daughter Bobbi Christina is in Los Angeles.
UPDATE: At 3:43, the police got a medical emergency call. When officers arrived, security was already trying to resuscitate, but at 3:55 she was pronounced dead at the hotel. Friends, family were there, notified. No obvious signs of anything criminal, and is being investigated. They’re trying to determine cause of death.
Her body is still at the hotel at the time of this writing.

I feel sad but also anger. She had so much but ultimately threw it all away.
What a waste of a privileged gifted life.

another tragedy, no, I was(am not) an avid fan but the lady could really sing.
There is a lesson there but one some of us fail to learn. At great personal cost.
And so young, too. What a tragic waste.

I sometimes wonder if the price of being a great singer or performer ,seems to be a short and turbulent life ? Shame , RIP Whitney x

Could it be all the people that surround them ? Groupies , shady character's they just wouldn't meet if they were ordinary ?
Terrible shock. Another lost talent and proof that money and success aren't always the answer.

I remember her, we sold loads of her debut album in the record shop i worked in the mid 80's.
Gutted, have everything she ever recorded on cd and loads of her 12" singles, tragedy at such a young age. Substance abuse may be to blame as at 48 she was hardly old! She was partying hard the night before I read!
Boy could she sing!

Just like Amy, my personal opinion is she would have been much better off without the destructive influence of that total ******* Brown. A very negative influence, not that Amy was influenced by B Brown, she had her own millstone. Without the narcotics.

I feel sad at the loss of the person, but the performer . . . . . she drove me demented with her wailing for years :( I never could understand why as a singer she constantly had to grandstand all the time by extending notes out far further than I would deem as necessary or conducive to the song.
That's my personal opinion of course.

as many have said, she could sing, it's a real shame, but not totally unexpected given her problems with alcohol and drug abuse.

Have none of her stuff. Admit she had a great voice but still pissed it all away as so many celebrities do.
I get annoyed at BB always getting the blame for her downfall! What, she didn't have any choice!? :mental:

Have managed to avoid the news/radio since the other night when it was announced.
I always find it very weird how people get emotional over someone they have never met and was a junkie.
I'am sure these people couldn't give a toss if one of the junkies round the corner to them died.

Mmmm. Some of her "music family"were being, how should I put it, not so kind just a few days before her death, now they are her best friends.
I'am sure these people couldn't give a toss if one of the junkies round the corner to them died.
If you are talking about her showbiz friends, possibly. If you are talking about people generally (ie the great unwashed) don't be too sure of yourself. Generalisations are always dangerous.
I am not looking to start contentious debate over this issue but addiction is probably one of the most misunderstood ilnesses. Attitudes really need to change and if anyone thinks otherwise I would invite them to spend a night with me at a soup kitchen.

And how the general public couldn't really are if a local junkie dies.
Of course it is a generalisation but imo holds pretty true.
Also there a lot of fantastic people that do excellent work with helping addicts.
A lot of them unpaid to.
I'am just always surprised how people will turn a blind eye to certain things because they are a "star".

Good point Stu, but I think if your in the lime light and you have fans your never going to be seen as some junkie down the road. But, your right these famous people wouldn't give a fiddlers if it was Joe Bloggs off the street.
There is one point I wanted to make, she was supposed to have been found in the bath? I'm not sure if this is true or not. But a few years ago, I was given a very strong medication for my back. I took the medication and had a bath. I fell asleep in the bath and as I turned on my side still in the bath, I began to choke. I was taken to hospital and the doctors said I was very lucky. The reason why I am telling you this, is because the previous night, she had been out and about and hardly looked like a junkie. Hardcore drugs may have had nothing to do with her death, she could have been on some sort of medication that took a bad effect or she could have drowned in the bath. It's all speculation of course.
The other thing is, you cannot put all the blame on Bobbi Browne at the end of the day she was a grown women. i suppose he didn't help in the beginning, but he didn't force her to take any drugs. Although, he does have a lot to answer from the past.

If amy whinhouse had worked in tesco's she would have been a chavvy junkie,but through her singing became a fragile brilliant talent.
Similar as m.jackson.
If a neighbour say an electrician had been accused of child molestering he would be probably forced to move (and rightly so),but because m jackson did some fantastic songs the public can almost overlook his charges.
Strange old world.
Hopefully she died quickly,painfree and with some dignity.

He was tried for those charges in court and found not guilty, no?

Yes for the second time he was in court but no for the first time he was accused, he paid off the family in that instance. But there is never any smoke without fire IMHO.

that's why i used accused.

Of course we will never know the truth if he was guilty or not.

Caffeine free drinks, regular exercise, sensible eating habit -> die of boredom at a ripe old age.

and the family's ambitions may have made MR. Jackson the real victim.
Or at least I can't rule it out. Even innocent he would have been an idiot not to have paid them off as the accusation being drug out in court would have been more damaging than the pay out.
This leads to others following the smell of money and his eccentric behavior would take him out in court.
his life was tragic from childhood and I hope that he did nothing terribly wrong with those kids but the sad fact is we will never now the whole truth so I am inclined to give him his rightful innocents till someone can prove other wise.
I think it's more the emotion she maybe stirred in people when they hear her singing, i suppose it becomes personal to them, almost in love like i guess.

No, your right,I first learned of singer Amy Winehouse on this forum and soon like some of her songs I got both of her albums. I hoped she would give up the drugs and be ok sadly she did but the booze took her out.
I actually felt a loss when she passed because she suffered so much in life with addiction and sang so soulfully about it.

I'm sure someone here has lost someone to excessive drugs and drink abuse. I know I have.
One of the ways this happens especially with drugs is over confidence in self administrating together with a change of dealer or supply. Different gear can sometimes mean a totally different outcome.
Well, we shall get to know what actually happened to her in the next 6 months. I hope it was painless and that it was natural.
Never been a fan of hers really and the Robin Hood track really got on my wick but she had a superb voice and was totally soulful. Something we find less and less of these days.
