Hi,
Anyone know if the Linn Sara Stands are the same as the Linn Kan Stands?
They look the same in the pics...anyone had both?
I know I should have the Saras on stands, and I do,but not the proper ones.
Any suggestions anyone?
Thanks all in advance

No, they are definitely not the same. They are the same construction but the Kan stand has a much smaller top plate (about half the size) and is a bit taller.

Don't buy Kan stands, the Sara's will be too high up and look ridiculous - they won't be very stable either.

Buy a pair of proper Sara stands - they are, by far, the best option. Just keep looking on eBay till a pair come up.

Thanks for that, its what I thought...although is there any other alternative?
I have missed a couple of pairs that went cheap, and kicking myself I didnt get them.I really dont listen to the saras any more, but I was just going to give them another try with proper stands and see what maybe Ive been missing,as I was preferring the LS7 and export monitors. But Ive got a new(ish) amp now so I want to try them again.

What amp did you get?
I've got a pair of Saras. Got them with Target R2 stands and they sounded okay. Although some recommend open stands for them.
R2's don't come up for sale that often and normally aren't cheap.

Yes, get those - they should have spikes top and bottom though.

I don't think you'd need top spikes, but since all Sara's will now be heavily scarred by their use, it probably doesn't matter now :)

Never used top spikes, it makes me cringe, a bit like leaving your LP's on the floor..

Made no bloody difference to the sound over dabs of blue-tack or the little RS supplied "bumpon" feet we used and saved the cabs from a huge pounding - I've seen too many speakers severely damaged by spikes to ever want to use them again..

I think you do.

Yes it does, quite obviously so in fact (IMHO).

I accept that shop speakers suffer from wear and tear - but then they get moved on and off their stands much more often than domestic speakers.

For the few speakers which required top spikes, we used M6 nuts, lightly Blutak'd to the stands. Had a similar effect to spikes but didn't wreck the cabinets.

to be honest,Im more worried about the floor spikes!!! new solid wood floor fitted! so dont think Ill be using them...linn recommend setting the spikes into cross head screws, screwed into the floor...ouch

I Blu-taked pennies to the floor and put the spikes on them. Worked alright for me.
Got some posh Blue Horizon feet now.

I have little wooden cones that are meant for under amps etc...would those do?
I could drill a hole half way through them and rest the spikes in them....I do like the pennies idea tho...

I have to beg to differ on this point. I did listen enough at the time, however, but possibly to different things.

If you need any pennies let me know. I've got some you can have for £1 plus postage.

Differ by all means - I also made this comparison many times and am confident in my opinion that spikes sound different to Blu-Tack etc (and usually for the better). In fact, I'm very surprised that you couldn't hear a difference!

Don't be. If there was a difference, it was small in the scheme of things maybe...

Well,I remember trying the spikes V bluetak test a long time ago....

And there was a clear difference....
With the bluetak there was an annoyed, but just about tolerant murmer that I didnt hear when I had an lp on,but the spikes? well, that was a different matter,no matter what I played I could hear the screaming!

Sorry guys, couldent resist, but that is the difference for me:lol:
Thanks

Well, these days, my ears seem to be full of a blue-tack type substance more often than they're not, so it's all irrelevant now :D
