Hello one and all
my real name is John and i reside in Bromley kent.
At the moment i am sorting my system,it is as one might say in flux!

My amp is a nad 3020a,with a project debut tt,speakers to be decided,but i am leaning towards kef or tannoys.

My taste in music is ecclectic,having been brought up on queen,a band that really broadens your musical horizons,and patience,hot space anyone?

just afew of my likes,i dont think i dislike any type of music,if its done with passion,that goes for classical as well,have a few hmv originals !

My vinyl has been in my wardrobe for fifteen long years,i bought most of it again on cd ! and after all this time seemingly downgrading my system from
a technics seperates system,to a bose 321 cd player(oh dear),i suddenly realized why i had stopped listening to music-it had become impersonal and to easy,plus of course the bose system confused me? it sounded good,but very tiresome after a while,the base just thump thump thump,with no definition at all!
I have a pair of kenwood speakers ,and when i plugged in my new deck and spun that first vinyl,wow! this is what i had been missing,and so i have ended up here,with an insatiable thirst for all things hi an fi

My 1st system had a 3020a and Tannoy mercury's .

Are you going to keep it simple or any high end ambitions ?

we live close and have similar systems. I've a Nad 302 with Tannoy speakers.

I cordially invite you around to have a listen. Bring your 3020 around and we can plug that into my 'spare' Tannoy Mercury MX1 bookshelf speakers and to my fully employed Mercury F3 floorstanders.

I've not heard a 3020, but I do love the 302.

I think our taste in music isn't too dissimilar.

Welcome to AoS!

You need a rack? How would a four tier Atacama Equinox suit you? Silver frame, "mint" green (light pastel green) glass shelves? I have one I don't use and have been putting off eBaying it. I was going to put a reserve of £120 on it, but if it suits you, make me an offer! You'd need to be able to collect it from me in Guildford though (not a million miles from Bromley :eyebrows:).

Yeah,its been a journey,thing is its getting expensive already!
and all i want really is a nice sounding little system,its a very personal thing cos
no one else in the house cares ! everyone else in here just listens on ipods,and i get such a hard time accused of being obsessed by my records! it only looks like that cos im always choosing a record to play! they just press a button and of they go!
So far i have a rack a tt a nice little amp,all thats left is a cheap pair of complimentry speakers,but that will have to wait at least 2 months for now i will make do with my generic kenwoods,paper cones and all ! there ok,but have a wierd tweeter placement between what looks like two exact sized mid range drivers? they are a bit vague? if thats a word to descibe them

The little Debut turntable is ripe for cheapish fettling too. The motor upgrade kit is £25 and according to measurements, removes the audible background noise of the standard article. An OM20 stylus can also be fitted, although you may need to reduce the playing weight from 2g (as mine was set to) down to 1.5 - 1.75g. I haven't a clue if the earlier Debuts can have the acrylic platter "upgrade" too and what the sonics would be like once done. A cork mat works though :)

S'cuse the comments above. I think the basics of a Debut are great, but obviously I don't know which Debut you have - the latest model is Rega priced and rather more sophisticated.

I used a NAD 3020A at work daily for turntable setting, both on speakers and headphones, and it was a fine tool, as well as a fine amp for a music-making system. As for speakers, loads of good vintage Celestions, B&W's and KEF's for well under £100 out there which the NAD will like and hopefully the missus too (I feel your pain :)). You'll have loads more fun this way for peanuts than spending serious money on new stuff...

Since I bought the Mini-T, the wife has been listening to music more, too...

In fact, when I moved from bookshelf speakers on stands to floorstanders, she noticed the difference and didn't complain too much about them. And the really notices the improved audio with the Ts.

The Nad still holds a special place in my heart, though, and now that the Ts are burned in, I'll compare then (blind listening) against the Nad to see which I like better.

Just realized the right hand tweeter has packed up on the kenwood speakers
Arggggggghhh ! Oh well ,just a wait now til the end of march !!!!
That's the worst thing that could have happened !!
Oh well,back to the bose for a couple of months !

John - if you want to borrow a pair of as new Jamo E530 speakers (like these (http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/222695-jamo_e530_high_end_140w_bookshelf_speakers_)) then let me know - I'll be going to Maidstone on Tuesday, so not too far from you if you'd like me to drop them off? They'll keep you from the dreaded Bose until you can sort something out!

I know how painful Bose can be. My in-laws have an Acoustiwave system... small, neat, highly sensitive radio receiver (wish I could receive Radio Kent with such little interference), but a bass that is divorced from the rest of the sound, and that soon becomes tiresome.
