From the photo I'm not sure how you would get close enough to it to cue up a record!. maybe suspended from the ceiling like Tom Cruise in Mission impossible 1 :)

I also note that it has been painted bright red, lest any vistor to your home should fail to notice it somehow!.

I believe that the official colour is listed as 'Baboon's Arse'.

I'd be forever nudging the arm mountings trying to get to the platter, and buggering up the alignment.

What a silly, silly thing...

Now I have no taste at all, and am particularly fond of multi-arm turntables aesthetically - but even I draw the line at this one! :spew:

Just because it's big, doesn't mean it sounds any good.

Yeah, and it's playing an album that was almost certainly heavily eq-d as all these old Deccas were :)

Bring back tone controls, that's what I say :D

How can anyone put that much effort into building a record player and not use Linear tracking.
Doesn't matter what you do, it's only going track right twice per side max.;)

Linear tracking is far from being issue free.

Don't all scream at once, but why do turntables, decks etc have to have a multitude of arms. You can only use one arm at a time. So why do people like these sort of turntables. It is the same with cartridges, why so many you can only use one at once? And yes, Dom has a multitude of arms and carts, but I always get the same response It's for the business, that is going on his headstone, and it will be sooner rather than later of he carries on lololololol.

It's the same with arms and cartridges.

I can see why you would say that, but you missed my point. I'm not saying it's wrong and that you shouldn't have lots of carts or arms if that is what you want. I just don't see the logic behind having that many arms on one turntable.

I'd like to see the "poor man's" version, maybe 6 ottomans on beer cans with a Dual in the middle? Might work...

SCWEEEEM!! :D

Actually, it's very simple... Take Dom's Garrard, for example, in that lovely big slate plinth, and then have a look at this one:

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/4645/garrard401spu.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/23/garrard401spu.jpg/)

...and imagine that if the plinth were big enough (and Dom's was too), another tonearm could be fixed onto the bottom L/H corner, with it being a different type from the other two, and all fitted with different cartridges, with each arm and cartridge combination excelling at reproducing specific types of music.

Therefore in effect, you could have, say, a 'rock music tonearm/cartridge', a 'dance music tonearm/cartridge', and a 'jazz music tonearm/cartridge', all on the one turntable. You could also mix 9 and 12" arms, as shown on the picture above, or unipivot and gimbal-based arms.

Yes, you can't use any more than one example of each at the same time (well, you could, but the effect would be 'interesting' to say the least! :eyebrows:), but what you can do is select the optimal arm and cartridge for the type of music you want to play, all set-up and ready to go!

Personally for me, that would be like a dream come true!!

Does that answer your question now? ;)

Marco.

Sort of, but it more about the pressings rather than the Genre? I don't know enough about hifi in general, but I do understand what you are saying. I think I will leave it there otherwise it will become another analogue verses mastered  You know what I mean Marco.

It is nice to have the option to switch occasionally between an SPU and something that plays what's actually on the record! ;)

You might want one arm for mono, one arm for normal records and another arm set up with an alignment biased heavily towards end of side distortion if you played a lot of 7" singles
