A kind soul gave this to me today. Just been having a play and it sounds pretty good (after you turn the dbx off). Fast forward & rewind don't appear to work but what do you want for nothing.

MMMMmmmmmmmmmmm I'd be careful if i were you. You might get a lawsuit from some Christian church from the US of A suggesting your using your TASCAM for satanic purposes. Them subliminal messages can get you into a lot of trouble Roy:D Remember poor old Judas Priest

I want some peppermints...............

Isn't that a PortaStudio? I've heard pretty good LP's made using one of these...

From a very very distant memory - I think that's a portastudio. It recorded all 4 tracks at the same time (ie. L&R from this side of the tape, and L&R from the other side). This is why if you play a regular tape on it, it will be playing the 'other' side backwards.

isn't there some great stuff from the pre-digital era?

Yep, it's a PortaStudio. My mate had one in the 80s and we recorded on it a few times. It was quite good as a four track recorder, but bouncing tracks wasn't really practical as the tape hiss quickly got out of hand.

You're right it's a portaministudio 05. I've just been surprised at the quality of sound coming from it, apparently Tascam are the professional arm of Teac.

Had a double speed marantz cassette deck (infact might still be somewhere round Mum's along with my Akai reel to reel)

Good to see you back Andr'e, must play that Clouds CD I bought after your preview + the gods sound interesting.

I think the "double-speed" cassette decks didnt last long because they infringed the Philips licence, or summat like that..

Yep - remember the Tascam 4 track units well - every aspiring band or musician had them in the 80's - well I didn't 'cos I couldn't afford one! My mate did though, and we recorded quite a few tracks with several "bands" I was involved with. Them's was the days. :wheniwasaboy:

IIRC you are only supposed to use Metal tapes in it as chrome or ferric will shed crap onto the heads and ruin them - But I've not seen or used one of these in 20 years so may be out of date.
