Why do manufactures massivly overate the fuses in power leads for their products?
My AV Amp consumes 550w. It came fitted with a 10amp fuse in its power lead.

Using the forumla:

Amps = Watts (550) ÷ Voltage (230)
2.39a. So a 3 amp fuse should be sufficient?

Am I being really thick here?

The fuse is there to protect the mains lead. I assume that the equipment is also fused internally.

I though it was that in double blind deaf and dumb testing it was supposed to sound better than a 5amp fuse.

There may be situations that a big surge of current is needed in the amp that might take the power over a lower rated fuse. or some other technical reason. Or they could have come up wit a random figure.
