Polishing Veneer

Anyone have anything they feel particularly strongly about for spiffing up real wood veneer? I've just been using lemon oil but I wonder if anything's better and better for preservation?

Danish oil is very good. Gives a nice matt finish. Use one without a stain.

Oil finish needs maintaining aswell as a muck harbourer

Oiling wood is just a cheap way to finish wood quicky, no drying time involved hence quick manufacture finish.

I bought a solid oak side table i specifically stated i DID NOT want oiling, what did he do, oil it! i could have slaughted him, it's taken me nearly a year for the oil to dry out in the wood so i could spray finish it.Now it's professionally finished, reliable & never wants maintaining.

Ditto Andre, not on veneer. These days when most veneers are .5mm there's no depth for the oil to penetrate. If you can't get it sprayed professionally which is the best option in my experience, you could use Osmo clear, after fine sanding, 320g, 2light coats by cloth, wipe off any excess..

The veneer on my speakers was Danish oiled by me in 1998 and the finish is still fine. Danish oil is about 30% varnish, which does set. I also have a coffee table made from red cedar which has had the same finish for even longer. It's fine too! :)
