For sale is a rare Grado FCE+1 Moving Iron Cartridge.

I purchased this cartridge back in 2008 on ebay, from an interesting vinyl, turntable and cartridge enthusiast. He only used the Grado to play one LP, and that was it!

This lovely old gem was never used much. Only had 6-7 hours use in total. I can only describe the sound as very musical and fun. So, If your looking for a cartridge that is analytical and revealing, please look else where!

The cantilever looks fairly straight and the tip looks like it has a lot of life left.

Like most Grado cartridges, it hums a little. But this does not affect the music.

The cartridge has some sticky black stuff on the top, It's very similar to Bluetack. This can be easily removed. But I'll let the buyer do that.

The instructions is cut in half, but is still readable. The cartridge also comes with it's original box, stylus protector and stylus remover.

NB: I don't have bolts for this cartridge. Buyer will need to buy their own. Sorry.

I paid £199 for this Grado. Yours for £160.

Free postage to anywhere in the UK.

Payments, Paypal 'Gift' Or Bank Transfer. (I strongly prefer Bank Transfers)

PM me if wanted.

I remember selling these back in the early 80s - £16.99 they were. The FTE+ (which was really rated by the Absolute Sound then) was £12.99. They've done very well as an investment. Nice cartridge and much better than they ought to sound at the original price.

I've got an FCE+1 sat here in the drawer at home - reckon I should put it up for sale by the looks of things (as Charlie rightly said, a penny short of 17 quid for it new).

Not the last (or first!) word in subtlety but good fun little cartridge. :)

Yup, got one of these myself somewhere in the garage minus a stylus. The sticky black bitumen is meant to be there IIRC, not sure what it's for though. There's also some in the aperture that houses the stylus. Incidentally, I paid £13.99 for mine from HG Rapkin in Northampton back in the early 80's. Sound wise it wasn't too shabby and it made for a great taxi radio receiver (I lived next to Nortax Taxis in Sheep St)

The 'black' stuff is used for damping and was (is) used even today in some Grados IMMRC.

BUMP.

Still for sale.

I'm open to offers for this great cartridge. It's still sitting safely inside it's tiny cute cylinder box.

Yep, that FTE+1 was a bargain and a half. I think I paid £12.99 for mine but it was the late '80s, so my memory is a bit hazy. Probably used it for less than 10 hours, just to see what the fuss was about. For the price (at the time) it was excellent SVPP but I didn't keep it; I was using better cartridges (EMT's and Ortofon SL15E's), so passed it on to someone who could make more use of it.

It's a low cost, near bottom of the range cartridge and had a bit of raw verve missing from many dearer Grado's as I recall - fun sound. I really didn't know they were fetching so much these days though
