Hi all,

I'm Martin and I live in Hampshire.

I'm just getting back into listening to music after 10 years in the A/V wilderness.

I woke up one day and said "music sounds rubbish through my home cinema system". Then I realised that apart from TV, I very rarely actually use the surround sound bits.

So, as budget allows, I'm going to slowly rebuild my system around music rather than movies. I've already changed my main speakers from satelites to full range floor standers and the difference is amaaaaazing!

My love of Hi-Fi started in around '82, when I went with my dad to buy my first proper system - a Dual 505 turntable, rotel RA820 amp and Kef Coda 2 speakers.

Obviously, things have changed a bit since then, but the bug never goes away!

I'm also interested in classic hifi and maybe a bit of DIY.

Looking forward to some intelligent hi-fi discussion, 'cos my wife says I'm boring her.

Cheers, Martin

Here's my main system:

- Mordaunt short Avant 905i centre.

- Sling media slingbox classic for watching my V+ when abroard.
- Wii for the kids.
- Home made A/V stand.

Hi Martin - welcome to AoS. I suspect quite a few of us have at some point had a surround system and then gone back to Stereo - I certainly have. Apart from all of the extra boxes and wires, I too found I hardly bothered, and even with movies through the Stereo system it sounds miles better than the TV speakers...

Don't worry, you're in the right place - we'll have you buying records again in no time! ;)

What sort of music do you like? Hope you enjoy the forum, and see you around. :)

Thanks Alex,

I like a lot of music, from 70s disco, 80s pop and rock, R&B etc. Not keen on boy bands or rap (does this count as music?). Absolutely love radio, from radio 2 and 4 to LBC talk radio.

Like many people, my tastes come from when I was a teenager in the early '80s and from my parents. My first live concert was Rick Wakeman (he used to live near here) - I still listen to his stuff occasionally. Also been to see Pink Floyd, The Eagles, 10cc, Elton John and a few others.

Not sure about the vinyl though - I've got a few LPs in the loft somewhere! I showed them to my 15 year-old recently, as he'd never seen one before.

Cheers,

Martin
