Hi Guys,
I am developing a new product to use with the Touch, was just hoping owners could advise whereabouts you put your touch in the equipment rack or on a shelf or on the floor? Also do you use an i-phone or android phone to control it or just tap the screen the old fashioned way?

I have used the Android app, but just use the Logitech remote now. Mine sits next to the hifi on a long Lack table. What are you developing David?

I have the SB touch on a coffee table next to my rack. I sometimes use the touch interface directly, but more often use Squeezecommander or the Squeezebox Media Centre web interface to control it.

My SBT sits on the rack on the same shelf as the DAC. Also, your very own PSU sits on the same shelf.
I use iPeng on a iPod Touch.
SBT uses wired Ethernet.

Mine is on the rack, sitting atop the Theta dac, nearly always used with the supplied remote, but sometimes with the Logitech Harmony.

For whatever reason, when my son comes home from uni, he uses the screen on the Touch.

only just started experimenting with the touch. bit late to the party. Mine sits in the rack and I usually use the screen.

My initial reaction is that the Touch could have been made a whole lot better buy making the display part of the device a removable remote control with the remainder of the device becoming a docking/charging/processing station.

In that way the touch display part could sit nicely on the coffee table.

No you can't, according to Logitech, that remote will not work on the Touch.

That is even more interesting!

I was about to buy one via Logitech's then special offer, and read on their own website that it would operate the Transporter and SB3 etc, but not the Touch!

I even phoned my local Superfi who assured me it would't work too!!

Colour me peed off!!! :steam:

Just re read the sp from the Logitech site, it says works with the Classic, the Squeezebox Receiver, and the Transporter, have I misread it? And when they say SB Receiver, is that a different term for the Touch?

Yes, a strange one, never read that myself. Indeed I'm sure it says somewhere that the Controller works with all Logitech products. Whatever, I've had no issues at all using mine, so I'd get one if you are still interested. The Superfi price looks good.

One point, I pre ordered my Touch, so have an early example. No idea if they have been changed in any way since production started?

Dave the Bass only morphed into Digital Dave recently, so his Touch is a recent one, and his works with the Controller with no problems.

I too am under the impression that the Controller works with all Squeezebox products from the Classic to present.

Mine sits on the equipment rack, Ethernet hardwired and SPDif connected to external DAC. It's too far away to read the screen, so my normal position is leaning forward from the chair as far as possible while squinting for England. The idea was not to have a laptop or computer involved and I swim against the tide in that I find operation via the laptop/ Squeezebox Server to be more "digital" and 2D compared with a powered HD directly connected. I rarely use the "touch" control directly and still intend to try replacing the remote with an Ipad control app - but can't wrestle the thing off the wife long enough (it is hers after all), so maybe not a long term solution either.

Exactly the same setup for me (inc your power supply Dave) :)
Also use the IR remote as well now and again.

Mine sits along side the TV but connected to my headphone amp. I use the iPeng app on my Apple iTouch to operate it

Never use the Touch screen.
I mainly use the web interface to the server; the controller or the SqueezeRemote app for my Windows Phone.

Previously also the SlimCtrl for my old Windows Mobile

They are now selling them as "closeout" stock at £70 but they still don't mention the The Touch being one of the units the Controller will work with! :scratch:

The Controller doesn't talk to the player.
It communicates with the server, and the player is controlled from the server. This can be a bit confusing when you get to The Touch, because The Touch can run server internally.
It's this server that The Controller communicates when you run The Touch as standalone.

Absolutely.
Which is why The Controller is not player specific.

Just wondered if it worked directly with the older kit, hence the perception that it doesn't work with the Touch.

All the older kit needs a server to run off, and as far as I know all current versions of server will drive all the older players.
Which by logical extension means that you can use The Controller to select music to play for any of them.

Anyone here running a SlimP3?

I wouldn't read anything into it :)
There's no mention of the Boom or Radio either.
Might have everything to do with the fact that all 3 products were introduced after the Receiver/Controller (aka Duet) combination.

I have a perfectly lovely Duet controller that works flawlessly with the Touch. I'm now using iPeng for iPhone, so first $100.00 takes the controller.

$100 Canadian dollars is a bit under £70 right?

Thanks but no thanks, Logitech are now selling them off brand new at that price, unless of course you mean with the Duet too?
In which case it's a great buy for someone!

mine sits on the top of the main HiFi rack, next to the teddy-dac. Sounds great. I tend to use the main screen of the Touch itself or SqueezeControl for my Palm/HP Pre3.

[does saying things like TeddyDac rather then RegaDac, and Palm rather than iPhone make me seem a bit contrary?!]

I am contemplating buying a Touch to replace my Squeezebox Classic in my main system. Not because the Classic doesn't perform well, it's excellent!

It is just that to make full use of my 120Mb/s internet connection speed I had to switch my router's security setting to AES (instead of TKIP/AES which is compatible with my Classic). Unlike the SB Classic the SB Touch works with AES, but that problem was easily solved, because I now have my Classic wired to my router. I cannot connect my Classic to my laptop using wifi though, because it's unable to work with AES. Therefore I need a Touch.

The other reason is the Touch works with Spotify natively so to optimally use my Spotify Premium subscription I need a Touch, so I do not have to use plugins in the Logitech Media Server environment (that I cannot connect to due the the AES setting).

I am glad though the Touch and Classic both use 5V so to juice the Touch I can use the linear psu that I bought for my Classic.

Biggest downside is to have a "Logitech" device in full display on my rack instead of a misterious "Slimdevices". :)

I was able to get a silver Slim Devices branded SB3 for the bedroom system, would have preferred a Logitech branded black one to be honest!

Mine sits in the middle of a stands unique rack (which I dislike intensely BTW) it's connected to a Cambridge Audio Dacmagic via some optical cable (possibly also Cambridge) and thence to an Electrocompaniet amp via some Gotham xlr. Sounds grand to me. I'd be interested in seeing what you are developing though I can't imagine anything improving what is already a superb product.
