Hello AOS forum,
Been in to HiFi since the eighties. My real first HiFi consisted of Townsend Rock reference, Nakamichi DR2, Mission Cyrus II plus PSX and pair of Freedom 753's
I thought it was the dogs danglies at the time. Had many a floor shaking parties. Probably much to the annoyance of the neighbors. Now own quite a different set up. Found this forum while looking for MODS for SL1210M5G. Glad I did as it may have saved me costly mistakes. I have always liked the SL1210 and managed to bag a new factory sealed one. I think that they are like hens teeth now. I like the idea of this deck giving my LP12 a kickin with a bit of tinkering, with out the usual rinsing of your wallet. Well so far I have found this site very informative and lively. Good work to the owners and to the people that really make it a nice place to hang out. Any way just a few short lines to do the necessary. Will be popping in and probably posting silly questions no doubt. All the best to everyone

Welcome - and WHY THE FUGG did you get rid of the Rock Reference? Not only would it annihilate an LP12 (the Rock II did that all on its own :)) but if it was working right, it would destroy most SL12**'s too apart from possibly half a dozen at the very top of the upgrading tree...........

You went from Rock Reference to an LP12 ? Max would be very upset , still you have a nice system , don't know anything about the Guru's , got any pics ?
The Guru's are an expensive favourite of Tom-Tom in S'Norbens I think. Not sure if many others like 'em though :scratch:

In my humble opinion/experience I have yet to hear those sound good at any show I have heard them in (Tom Tom rooms) they may light some folks fire but I would not have the gift of a pair. I suppose it might be like horn speakers as I can't get past the cuppy colourations on most of those (few exceptions I do like) and I have yet to hear a single driver speaker I really like either.

Yes the rock was a very nice turn table indeed. It was the eighties I fell on hard times and had to sell the lot. it broke my heart and after that I could not bring myself to buy any more HiFi for over twenty years. Then one day found myself in a HiFi shop and the rest is history. The passion was re-ignited. As for the Gurus they are a great little speaker. Horses for courses and all that. at the moment I live in a small two up two down cottage and floor standers are out the question. Hoping to move this year to a larger house then I will get me some floor standers. Here is a picture of my system and a single Guru.
Hi Glen, welcome from me too. Lovely looking rack full of Naim there. :) Never heard your speakers so I shan't join in dissing them... :rolleyes: - they float your boat and that is all that matters! VDGG have passed me by until relatively recently - so still just learning. Hope you enjoy AoS. :)

You may just find that the VDG CD's were carefully remastered and now rather better than the original vinyls, as many smaller outfits have had more say in the final "digital" result...
Well yes ,that's prob true,but they were a band that I listened to occasioaly
And once the vinyl went,didn't think to buy the cds ? I may just do that
