Power switch on SL1210

Hi,

My Technics SL1210 TT power switch is playing silly buggers!!

I picked up a copy of The Style Councils Cafe Bleu today from a charity shop for the grand sum of £1.

It's the first time I've heard this album & IMHO it's AWESOME.

Anyway I played side one & when it had finished I turned it over to play side two & the power switch turned but the platter didn't move & the light didn't come on.

This has happened ocassionly & usually then works, as it did tonight.

Possible causes please & is it easily fixed/repaired.

Living in West Yorkshire is there someone who would look at this deck!!

Can't help on the problem but agree Café Bleu is a fab album! Good luck with the switch!

Dodgy contact is your problem.
What I fail to understand is why you don't use the Start/Stop button to start and stop your deck :scratch:

Where abouts in West Yorkshire are you? I live in Wakefield.

The part, above the deck, is just a cap connected to a shaft. Turning this actuates a micro switch on the flip side of the deck. The pain in the butt part is that you have to pull apart the deck (lots of screws) to get to it. However, if it's just misalignment, it's possible it will be a quick fix; perhaps the micro switch is no longer anchored to the deck as it should be... missing screw? I bought at least two 1200's with similar problems and fixed both by replacing the top cap/shaft and making sure the micro switch was positioned properly.

I do use the start/stop button to start/stop but on turning the record over I had stopped the deck from turning with the start/stop.......................but the power light went off so I tried turning the power switch on & off.................to no avail!!

I'm not a techie but even I know the difference between power & stop/start!!

Thanks for clarifying that - the way your original post is worded gives the impression that you use the power on/off dial to start and stop your deck :)

For what its worth, some people, like myself, keep the platter spinning for the whole period of listening, its easy enough to just flip the disc over, using both hands. When I use to use a record weight it was a matter of practice to just lift this on and off. The Michell screw on record clamp is a another matter where the deck must be stopped! I'm of the opinion that constantly activating and de-activating switches does not help with their well being....

Mick - if the power light failed before you turned the on/off switch then you have an intermittent connection somewhere, probably in the internal power supply - is yours a standard unmodified deck? Otherwise the on/off switch might be critically adjusted to be on the cusp of switching - this can be adjusted but as far as I can recall you have to remove the base of the deck to get to it.

My SL1210 TT is a standard unmodified deck at this moment, although I'm wanting to mod it in the future.
