Shane, If I may with respect suggest you do just this. This gear hardly ever comes up used, presumably something to do with it being very well liked and upgradeable.

Good luck though, I've done the same myself in asking around - no waste of words having a pop.

I could have sold my Micro 25 twice over that I know of without trying but alas it wasn't available as it's going for upgrade rather than sale/replacement.

Enjoy the 25, you have to say the entry fee is more than reasonable !

I've also been on the lookout for a micro 25 for ages and they're completely non-existant second-hand. If IHP is who i think he is he will vouch for me badgering him! Glad you're sorted now. I think i may have to go down the new route too.

Hope you enjoy the Croft's Shane. I was so glad to have a SMA4 PP preamp back in my posession a couple of years ago. Whatever happens with the rest of it all, the Croft stays put :)

Dave's not about at the moment, so............ I do believe it was a Super Micro A MkIV - there were two versions on the market at the same time in the late eighties:


the Super Micro A MkIV 'PP' which used twin sets of ECC83's in push/pull (hence PP), and
the Octal that used the bigger octal type valves in a rather simpler circuit


..........or something!

Thank you. Mine is indeed the PP version, with doubled up valves in both the phono and line stages. Here's my very preamp before I took it over -

- and did a few basic updates under Glenn's guidance. Both the previous owner and myself twenty plus years ago preferred the PP to the "Octal" SMA4, which I found a bit too "fruity" sounding...

Once Glenn has updated the circuits, I have a pair of stepped attenuators in mind, since the tracking of the little Alps pots he used back then isn't that wonderful and I find it difficult to get a matched channel balance.
