View Full Version : Etta James RIP
Just learnt the sad news of the death of Etta James at the age of 73.
Probably best known for ‘I’d Rather Go Blind’ and ‘Tell Mama’, James had a long and successful career, influencing the likes of Diana Ross, Bonnie Raitt, Rod Stewart, Elkie Brooks, and more recently Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith and Adele.

I'm listening to Etta tonight.
I've already started with 'At Last'. An absolutely phenomenal voice. To add to the list of people she influenced, two of the stand-out tracks on the Beth Hart & Joe Bonamassa album were made famous by her.

I just read that Johnny Otis (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-16645161) also passed away. He discovered Eta James and even wrote one of her hits, The Wallflower in 1955.

She was there right at the start of it all "rock n roll" i mean, and although she will always be remembered as a blues singer she was an influence on many rock n roll legends. Like many of her peers she battled drug and alcohol abuse but still managed to hit a ripe old age.
A true Blues great R.I.P Etta James
I recently Tivo'd a concert of Etta in later years at the House of Blues, Sky Arts channel has been showing some good stuff lately. Not a singer i was familiar with but thoroughly enjoyed this gig, she still had a great presence despite being chairbound.
