It seems that some of the asio dll's for foobar on the net don't work. :(
It also seems that some dll's for album art and columns needed to display album art in foobar are broke.

I've just set up foobar200 and asio4all on WinXP and these work.

I know some of you are still struggling with foobar2000 and asio4all.
This guide is the best on the net.

http://www.ayre.com/usb-foobar_setup_xp.htm

There seem to be a couple of places where some get stuck.
Under foobar>preferences>output device, you must select asio4all as the output device, not your Dac.
If asio4all isn't showing then the probability is you've got a duff asio dll in your components folder.
The asio out dll linked to in the original post works.

The next point (although it is explained in the above guide) is you must configure both foobar and asio4all, first by highlighting asio4all in Configured Virtual ASIO Devices and clicking on Edit and then again in the asio4all Virtual Device Editor.

Asio4all is working when a green box with a white arrow shows on your task bar while you are playing music. It wont show if there is no sound being played.

Sometimes asio4all just doesn't want to configure and you just have to go through the configuration process again.

I no longer use Windows or asio for audio replay; Linux just sounds that much better and while it too has set up problems the effort is well worth the trouble. ;)

Thanks for all your help when I installed Foobar / ASIO the other day John . It was well worth the trouble , sounds so much better than Windows Media Player.
One thing that is worth noting is that it took quite a few minutes for ASIO4ALL to show up as one of my choices in the menu , so anyone who is installing these programmes would be well advised to install them and then give things five minutes or so to settle down and start working before going ahead with installation. When I initially tried to install ASIO it didn't come up as one of the choices initially . It was only after tinkering with it for a while and going back to the beginning did it show up. If it wasn't for the help you provided I would probably have given up , so thanks again John.:)
Brian.

It was a pleasure Brian. If you're getting better quality audio then that's what matters.

Linux next then ;)
