Hi All..

Recently, I've accidentally pushed the cantilever of my Goldring 1012GX cart a wee bit too hard while cleaning it - broken it into two useless little needles.

I'm ordering a new Audio Technica AT95E cart as a temporary (yeah right..) replacement, and was wondering whether it could perform at least half as good as the Goldring. Anybody has any experienced with the AT95E before?

Can someone please suggest other budget carts that's worth considering too (<50 quids), since I'm going to buy some more as contigency stock. I'm going the cheapo route now since I often doze off while listening and the TT would keep on playing until dawn - wearing off the stylus unnecesarily.

BTW, I'm using the Goldring GR2 turntable.

I have 2 Nagaoka MP11 borons, they're old cartridges but the both work perfectly, you could have them for your £50 limit. Just PM me if you happen to be interested.

Peter,
Well, the old-ish Nagaoka seems to receive quite some decent reviews.
It could have been one of those blast from the past that I'm not aware of.
Will let you know if I decided to grab one then. Cheers.

Yes,

It works pretty well, maybe a tad bright, depends on your tastes. I like it, but I think the Shure is better, if, maybe, a tad dull. OTOH the Shure combo cost me c. 150€ whereas the Nagaokas cost me roughly 50€ each.

cheers

My newly purchased Audio Technica AT95E cartridge sounds very nice, with very good timing and soundstage (For the money) !

However, the sibilance is sometimes going a wee bit too much for my liking with vocals - which was never the case before with the Goldring GR2 cart.

Have I got the setting wrong, cart misalignment etc?
Appreciate if someone could shed some light on this..

Cheers.

Here you go, BE QUICK

A nice MC like this will see off any mm you are likely to want to buy, imho.

Lots of capability to match any TT upgrades you make in the future, too.
