This is the Monarch in Walnut, fitted at the moment with a 12" SME M2, really interesting to be able to compare two identical turntables ,with two identical carts through the same system at the same time.

Keith, are the wooden sections made from laminated wood blocks rather than single pieces? Could be good for breaking up resonances if they are bonded block.

Simon. Hi, from the ends you can see the mirrored wood, I believe they are blocks which are split and then fixed either side of the aluminium chassis.
Russ Collinson makes the plinths I can ask him exactly if you like?

Is the motor effectively the Technics PCB lifted straight from the 1200 series?

I guess they bought up the suppliers direct drive mechanism, guessing they had a few 1000 left when Matsushita pulled the plug on the SL1200 series?

I believe the motor unit is pretty much stock, they have upgraded the timing circuitry ,new power supply, bearing ,plinth and platter.

Yeh, looks like laminated wood blocks Keith, most people assume solid wood to be 'one piece', I assume the implication is that it's not veneered as opposed to large bits of tree.

Which, plinth and control circuitry aside, is what many of us here have done with our Techies, at similar cost, but have also managed to factor into the equation the use of a decent arm (as opposed to no arm, as standard, on the Monarch)... ;)

Joking aside, it would be fascinating to compare, say, my modded Techy or Martin's, to the Monarch and see what happened :)
