I do not wish to measure worth and value by monetary cost but this stuff really is getting pricey.

The 15 was supposed to be sweeter in tone than the 25, but this one looks to be in amazing external condition, although it'll be due a cap and possibly resistor change here and there of it hasn't been done. According to a review on HFN a year or two back, midband distortion on these is extremely low by valve standards (and pretty fair for ss too) and there's pretty good damping factor as well.

eBay is going mad right now, so the final price is about par for the course for something so desirable I think.

What I'd love to do is try the Apollon amp at under £700. I can confirm that the Quad II's unfettered from the horrible 22 preamp tend not to sound very soggy (even less so if sympathetically rebuilt) and as for the very naughty little Leak Stereo 20 I heard a few months ago :D :cool:

This one was in fantastic condition Dave and that's for sure.

Having said what I said I maintain the Leak 20 is the (still) bargain of the Hi Fi world in terms of good old vfm. I'm a bit of a fan of Paul at Classique Sounds work, I think his rebuilds are unbeatable.

I suppose fairly scarce old stuff in good nick just isn't going to go down in price. I gave up on owning a pair of Leak 12.1 five years ago !

An old mate of mine leant me his Croft rebuilt TL12.1's some years ago. They HATED being messed around with, trying different speakers with them and seemed to take ten to fifteen minutes to "settle" with the particular speakers they were connected to for some reason.

I don't know who fettled the Stereo 20 we had such fun with (one of my infamous visits to hifi dave with Alex_UK that I cannot catalogue on here now for risk of "verbals" sent my way elsewhere), but the caps had been changed to a high standard and the thing was well behaved once a dicky valve was replaced..

I'll never know on the 12.1 front ! But I implore anyone with an interest to listen to a 20 if you can. I'm in Nottm. and the kettle's always on !

Really, I have no technical knowledge I can help people with, but if I have one bit of HF advice......listen to a Leak 20.

And let's be right, back to the OT, a Radford's off the bloody budget !
