My first thread of the year, a HNY AoS's ;-)

I just wondered if anyone had any views on having a Micro 25 pre part upgraded towards the 25R until such time as funds permitted the full job.

I've emailed GC and am assuming the answer will be that this can be accommodated in some form (had reply already, it can) but just wondered if anyone had any first hand experience of doing so. I'll have £350, maybe £400.

Indeed, whilst posting I may as well ask for any views from those who've owned/heard both the 25 and 25R.

Cheers muchly.

Apologies to the gent if he's reading this, but somebody here did just that (I just can't remember his monika :().

The 25R as I recall, is a far more complex beast altogether and to convert would mean replacing almost all of the innards except the input cockets, cabling and switches (maybe the single transformer is retained, I don't know).. However, Glenn was able to beef up the power supplies somewhat and this works on the standard circuit. Why not give Glenn an email and publish any suggestions he makes?????

Glenn had ideas for the RS very early on (and realised it in one form in "my day" as the Mega Micro) but the markets need to dictate what is made, otherwise it gets too confusing. It's bad enough with a series 7, Series 7R, standard mono's and R-spec monos apparently. he's already now got four preamps and I honestly feel it would be breakdown time, if not suicidal, to put a tweaked but not "R" series 25 into production.

All the best with your sonic travels though. While Glenn keeps his little firm going with the love, care and attention he gives it and the products he makes, I'll shout about it from the rooftops :)

I think you should just wait until you can afford the proper upgrade. As I've said at length on the other forums, I think that each step is really worth it, up to 25R and then to the two-box RS.

Still bemused that I sold that 25 back to you Ian, but at the same time I feel that fate has some Croft boxes in store for me in the future, the shape of which is not yet clear. They will come at the right time.

Mmm, this may be sage advice. On the latter, it remains appreciated Andrew, honest ;-)

Yes. No doubt.

I need to shift my EE BBA and then I can afford it.

Strangely my only hesitation came tonight, I was playing some new music a mate sorted me and it was one of those moments when you're on your own and everything sounded perfect, just perfect. And then I thought why the heck am I hurling more money at this ?

Answer......because that's what we do ;-)

Just a quickie, the 'R' has 5 ECC83 in it, anybody know how many for the phono stage and how many for the line stage please, and which are which from left to right or whatever? Ta.
