What kit have you always wished to hear?

I've always wanted to do this - get everything together in one place and have an extended listen. I'm not thinking so much of a "showdown", rather just a chance to listen and appreciate/critique stuff that you've always been curious about. Suppose a truck dropped off a bunch of gear for you were allowed to keep it for 6 months - What would you like in the lot?

*one of the classic large Tannoys
*Fulton loudspeakers

*RCA studio monitors

*simplest, least expensive, early, direct-wired Croft preamp (Micro?) - thoughts are maybe I could learn how to refurbish/maintain this myself

*Micro-Seiki MA-505 tonearm
and last but not least...a good example of what's special about Decca carts.

- Some mentally expensive Audio Note stuff

On the plus, through forum friends and Scalford I've heard load of gear I'd never have heard otherwise.

I have heard those vox Olympian things at Definitive though. They were ok. And cost more than my house.

I used to own an Alphason HR-100 SMCS tonearm fitted to an Alphason Sonata turntable and damn fine it was too but I found in my experience that the turntable was much greater than the arm. I had a Kiseki Blue Silver Spot cartridge fitted to it all. My best ever vinyl replay system and one I shall never be in a position to replicate.

When I was younger I loved style over substance, I had a Garrard Zero100SB- looked fantastic, I used to convince myself it sounded good to. At that time all I wanted in life was the Lecson pre and power amp. From the reviews I have read it wasn't that reliable.

Seriously though I'd love to hear a pair as I have never in my life seen a fully working pair - the perils of foam surrounds :rolleyes: I don't happen to have heard the 90s either, but I always liked the sound of every other AR speaker I have come accross which includes a good few up to the 93 :)

The rear part of that arm assembly looks amazingly like my old Rabco SL8E parallel tracker.

I have one of these turntables, a slightly later one with the arm controls also on the turntable control panel too. The T3F arm is a parallel tracker with a servo controlled "cart" carrying a pivoted arm which a servo controller keeps parallel by moving the cart. This has the advantage of low tracking distortion without the high lateral effective mass most have.
The Rabco is the same concept, though crudely made, to say the least...
