Coffee Making Machine Money Savings.

The wife bought me a Philips Senseo for Christmas, it makes great coffee by the way, but in a little over a week I have spent £12 on the Douwe Egberts "pods" necessary for this particular machine.
If my intake of coffee continued at this rate, I would be around £600 worse off in a year, no small amount I reckon.

But, whilst perusing Amazon & E Bay for sources of coffee at a lower price, I noticed a thing called an "Eco pod", for less than a fiver for two refillable containers that fit the Senseo, I thought I'd get them to see if they were any good.
They are shipped directly from Germany, and they suggest a delivery time of around four weeks, but much to my surprise they arrived today after only five days!
Sticking with Douwe Egberts cafetiere coffee, that I pay a silly £1 a pack for, I tried it, and if anything tastes better than the pod version, but at a fraction of what the pods cost, and of course it now means I can use absolutely any ground coffee I please.
If you own a Senseo, I can highly recommend the " Eco Pod"! :)

Now....what shall I spend the money on that I will save......:scratch::eyebrows::lol:

Excellent - those pods are expensive. I can't find the eco pod but there's something called the coffeeduck. I guess its basically the same. I'll order one tonight.

What the hell...
Here you go,great coffee,don't over perk or it gets bitter,you'll learn your stove top,secret is keeping the heat low so it doesn't over extract to bitterness .

The irony of all this is that the convenience of the disposable pod is THE selling point for these machines, no messy expresso dregs to clean out etc.. Downside was cartridge prices and selection/availability.... High and low respectively.
And you are now going to be using..... Ehm, non-disposable pods..... Hmmm...
Ah, technology... As to the perky perco Jeff, I'll stick with expresso from the old faithfull "messy" machine thank you all the same....

I still have my stove top little French type coffee pot, but it keeps oxidysing, despite cleaning regularly.....well....once a year at least! I also have my cafetiere, but somehow the coffee does not taste as good as with the Senseo, dunno why....same coffee used!

I do take on board about the reason why using a pod is far more convenient, but in all honesty it only takes a moment to fill the Eco Pod and use it, and less time to flick the used grounds out again, and ALL that money I save can go towards life extravagances like food, electricity and gas, kids at uni (3!) etc etc! :)

1 - Pressure and temperature make a big difference to the taste of the same coffee believe it or not. Some afficionados even demand particular grinds of coffee. Hifi is not the sole preserve of nutters.
2 - I guess this is the same idea as a standard expresso, only the basket/pod volume is limited, so 2 shots = 2 pods I guess.
