I've been wandering around the graveyard... Think maybe they'd work well on a heavy metal album cover... :)

Freaky! (But very good.) Is that infra red film, or digital processing (or one hell of a frost!?)

Superb!

Love the first one Simon, very 'Tim Burton' (that being a good thing in my eyes :))

For one, I'd like to see more 'creepy' shots, could be a very interesting thread in the making.

Are the top graveyard stones real...? Why do they have skulls on them...?

Who the hell is buried there...? Is it Margret Thatcher and Denis...?

Thanks for the comments chaps.

Good spot Hamish and Alex - it's infrared digital (not HDR - though I intend to play around with infrared + HDR at some point!).

I converted an old D70 with surprisingly little swearing, presume that's what you did too Hamish?

I sodded about for years trying to get a decent infrared shot on film (B/W and that crappy colour E4 rubbish) but was utterly defeated by guessing the focus point, opaque filters, absurd exposure times and temperamental processing. All hail digital - change over the hot filter and Bob's your uncle.

The one with the two gravestones (the better one in my opinion) also has a texture on it, and both have some general jiggery-pokery (holding back, burning in, contrast etc - but nothing I wouldn't have done back in the day in a 'proper' darkroom). Other than that they are 'real' ie, no superimposing or drawing in.

Thanks for the Tim Burton comparison Ant, I relate to that and regard it as high praise.

Hamish - feel free to post (and thanks for asking), maybe the thread has legs....

Yes Hamish - that's the resource I used. It's a piece of cake doing the conversion compared with some of the audio stuff people do here.

Are the top graveyard stones real...? Why do they have skulls on them...?

Yes they're real and I haven't moved them. I've noticed that very old graves - eg those from the 18th century - often (maybe usually) have skulls/bones. I find them fascinating. I should really do some research to understand the symbolism and changing attitudes to death.

Why thank you Hamish.
The burnt light is a vertical steel bar, prison cell door type thing.
Your forum.... I sure am, yet to post though, the calibre is set a bit high for my quick snaps, maybe one day :)

And by the standard of that last shot completely unwarranted!
Anyway ...We like a good snapshot! We have threads full of them ...
In fact a few people have started 366 projects of straight out of camera snaps :)

Another great shot, I'd love to go there... I'd have a field day with the camera I think!
There are a good few people on there (including me) who very much like this sort of thing!
Don't be scared, freindly bunch ... Few weirdos mind, but the good type of weirdo :)

Hehehe... Would you be scared, shweety, if she entered your room in the depths of the night? Picture this:

Sensing an icy draught next to your skin, you awaken, and through sleepy eyes examine the room around you. The darkness at first reveals nothing unusual, and you can find no source of the freezing feeling pervading you to your very soul. The windows nearby remain firmly shut, rain pounding against them and the wind howling outside, creating an intriguing but rather sinister cacophony, as you peer into the night sky from the warmth and safety of your bed - or so you think... The heating is still on, yet your bones remain chilled to the core.

Dismissing it all as a bad dream, you close your eyes and begin drifting off back to sleep, only to be awoken again suddenly by what you presumed was your wife's breathing next to you. Then the acrid odour of formaldehyde and a putrefying stench, like that of a decaying corpse, assaults your nostrils. Gagging profusely, and with a feeling of dread in your heart, you turn round to confront that which is lying next to you.................................. And there she is:

DEVIL GIRL!!!!!!

Lol - you're not the first person who's said that. I just do it occasionally for the amusement of myself and friends (the horror stuff, that is!) ;)

I love the work in particular of Edgar Allan Poe and Dario Argento. John Carptenter can also hit the spot nicely. I find the macabre fascinating. If I can find it, I'll send you the novel I wrote a few years back, entitled: 'The Lonely Hotel of Death'. Trust me it'll freak the fuck out of you....

Yeah and the story we started writing together here on AOS, that like some of your 'write ups' ...........:sofa: never appeared or went any further :( . It was a year and a half ago I think

Horrible picture, like something out of 'Ring' the return. Baby crawls out of the well instead of a girl with long black hair.

Ok, to continue the story:

Your eyes fill with horror as the baby-like vision that had previously confronted you, now transforms into the sinewy and time-creased face of an old woman. Her visage is so close that even in the gloom, diluted only by a flicker of light from some old streetlamps outside, you are able to trace the outline of her blackened and lifeless skin, devoid of moisture, like the wrinkled bark of an ancient tree - and one which most certainly had been long dead.

Coming very quickly to your senses, and with your heart pounding, you try to get out of bed and escape, but as unimaginable fear takes over, your limbs freeze, and it is impossible to move, all the time the barren sockets in the old woman’s skull, which once contained eyes, seemingly staring at you, almost as if they could peer into your soul... Aimlessly, you try once again to move, but still paralysed from sheer terror, you can do nothing as her maggot-infested limbs wrap around your body and begin strangling you to death.

As the room begins to spin and you slowly lose consciousness, you think that the sinister sound of your ribcage being brutally crushed is the last sound that you will ever hear, as the most intense pain engulfs you, but not before blood-curdling screams of unimaginable intensity echo around the room and fade slowly away, as the life drains from your body... The ghoulish old woman, still munching on a stringy segment of your spleen, intermingled with brain and bone, turns and focuses her attention on your wife, who has just entered the room, and observes the sheer terror in her eyes, as she stares screeming in horror at the crumpled mass of your bloodied and mutilated body, illuminated only by a shaft of light from the hall outside.

She would be next...

There be ghouls in this house, and they will not rest until those who have desecrated the ancient burial site of the Malchayar are gone.
