I'm in a position to pass on my second SL1500 turntable if anyone's interested. It's in perfect working order with a good arm, which has had it's exit cable upgraded to great effect.. As well as original Technics mat, it comes with a Herbies/Timestep mat which does a great job on this model.

Condition is very good, the bearing is smooth and has been serviced and the plinth is excellent, the cover needing a polish but with no cracks. The deck will come with original period Technics headshell and I can provide a basic Ortofon VMS cartridge to get you going, should you need it.

Including mat and cartridge, I was thinking of £100 plus P&P. Although not a quartz-locked deck, sonically it's very good potentially and seems to like being directly coupled to a massy surface with the lid removed for serious playing.

Any interest? I'll post more pics later on..

The SL1500 is a very good deck - for the money someone is going to be very happy... Good luck with the sale Dave.

If I offered this without herbies mat for £70 and sold the mat separately for £30, would there be any takers?

The 1500 is a very good deck and better than older Rega Planar 2 or 3's I should add, which sell for loads more. The bearing is well up to mats of the Funk variety and with suitable isolation, the deck and arm will take some pretty good cartridges - the Dynavector 10X series was a favourite back then, as was the original DV20A. The tonearm is more rigid than the later ones I think, but not so massive that more delicate mm types won't work. It sounds great with Shures and as you can see, a G800 sounds solid and dependable too, with tracking only limited by the tip. I've also used a good Supex 900E in it to great effect and excellent tracking.

I really do need to start afresh this year (and possibly in more ways than just HiFi). Some of the other bits I need to sell are spoken for now, but I shall probably be listing a couple of other items shortly..
