Hello AOS.

Discovered you quite by accident when researching DACs, and was so impressed that I decided to join.

My moniker shows as Mr Nad - I love Nad amps. When I was a boy I say what must have been a 3020 in Sevenoaks HiFi... I fell it in love. That must have been the first time I realised that something so ugly was amazingly beautiful... Anyway, being just a very young boy the price tag shocked me, but I swore that one day I would own a Nad, and as soon as I could afford one, I bought one, the 302 (which at the time was a EISA amp of the year.)

I have yet to come across an amp I think sounds better than the 302 (admittedly, I've not heard that many amps!)

Tannoy speakers I love too. I've heard plenty of others, but none makes the Nad sing as beautifully as do the Tannoys. The two are a perfect match to my ears.

I recently felt that it was time to upgrade my amp, but when booking an audition with Sevenoaks HiFi, it was suggested that I try a DAC instead. As I love the Nad/Tannoy sound, it seemed like not such a bad idea.

And that's what brought me here.

Nice to meet you all.

Mr "L J" Nad

Hi L J, welcome to AoS :) You know we really can't call you that as we like to go by first names on here, besides which you just reminded me of a show which I watched as a kid - B J Mckay & the Bear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B._J._and_the_Bear) :rfl:

Now you don't want me thinking of Chimpanzees now do you :eyebrows:

So what type of music do you listen to on your NAD/Tannoy setup?

Hope to get to know who you really are shortly :)

Evening!

Wasn't it BJ and the Bear? I recall, but never watched it.

Chimps... I read today that the chimp that played Cheetah in the 1930s Tarzan films died at the weekend aged 80! So, if chimps are your thing, please feel free to think about them :eyebrows:

As for music, I'll listen to all sorts, including my own compositions. I don't have a huge collection of music, but what little I do have is eclectic, perhaps a little esoteric. The Penguin Cafe Orchestra, a dash of Eminem, a pinch of Baroque, rock, electro pop, adverts from the 80s, TV themes/incidental music/library tracks...:mental:

When watching films, I'll plumb the sound through the Nad, too, and maybe wire in a passive surround speaker if the mood takes me.

My name, call me Lenny.

P.S. - I tried to think of some way of working the words 'Go-Nad' into this post, but I couldn't decide how to do it without offending you!

Hello neighbour. Good call with penguin cafe orchestra. I read recently that they've reformed under Simon Jeffe's son as penguin cafe. Might give them a whirl on spotify....

@Ashmore, that's great news. Jeffes was a genius. I recall seeing PCO on the South Bank Show in 1986 (or thereabouts) and they were brilliant performers. Great Music with great titles.

Most people have heard them without knowing it. Telephone and Rubber Band was used for the One-to-One (T-Mobile) adverts, another piece was used by Eurostar, and various snippets appear in ads and television programmes all the time.

@Puffin, there was a hair removal product called Nads. http://www.infomercial-hell.com/nads/.

I like to show mine off to visitors. Nothing like a hands on demo.

I too originate from Kent, man of Kent, not a Kentish man in my case...

I actually got in to Hi-Fi as a lad driving past Sevenoaks Hi-Fi too, there was a little strecch of road that had a posh car show room, pet shop, fish n chip shop and Sevenoaks Hi-Fi, didn't know where to look! and that was after doing a Fenton in Knole park.
