As the title above, and needs to be model SCPH 1001. And must be in very good working condition.

Be grate if someone in West London/North London has one. So I can pick up and pay by cash.

Cheers.

I got all mine from Fleabay, most I paid was £15...the least £4.99. I bought 4 so that I could experiment with them (Dogbreath mods etc).

You need to ask them to look at the model number underneath to get a 1002 (1001 is the US equivalent - I think).

Puffin,

Is the 1002 as good as the 1001?

Regards.

It is the European equivalent. 1001 is US voltage.

EDIT :
Overview

In late 2006 I came across a few articles at sites such as MSBNC and ars technica describing how one of Sony's original PlayStation consoles, the SCPH-1001 (US model) contains a particularly nice DAC, helping to make it a particularly good sounding CD player.

Cheers Puffin. I'm guessing both models sound the same?

I would say so as they both have the same AKM Dac chip. I have modded a 5552 which also has the same dac chip, but it does not have have the phono outs, so you have to add two phono sockets. No big deal.

My son lives in Ealing and am up there regularly if you need any help. I made a separate linear Power Supply that is worth doing.

Phew! Over £75 with postage!
Most people were keen to sample this "Sony Wonder" as the cost was minimal to buy and modify them. I have modified several and can do it for you if you like. I don't charge for my time only the new capacitors that are fitted.

I got one for a fiver from Keswick Oxfam. They had a whole bucket full last time I was there. However its been a frustrating little grey box. After letting it warm up for a while I gave it a try and it did indeed seem a surprisingly nice player, ridiculously so for a fiver from Keswick Oxfam. However it has real problems starting up. I thought that putting a weight on it helped, but now nothing seems to work. It just whirs around very quickly without getting through the initial read stage. If anyone has a diagnosis it would be much appreciated?

Sounds to me that the laser tracking/focus or current needs adjusting, maybe a good place to start is the common fix current adjustment like this (http://www.mod-chip.bz/Playstation/adjust.html) (third paragraph)

The laser needs re-setting. Have a look at www.dogbreath.de

Thanks for these links; I'll try following the instructions when I return home in the new year. I keep looking out for another in Oxfams but they always seem to be the ones without RCA outputs.
