A bouncy floor is no place for a bouncy turntable.

Nothing wrong with a bouncy turntable...? Come to think of it there is nothing wrong with any type of turntable...:)

You might be better off using a wall shelf- I have a "sprung" lp12 and wooden floor boards and wouldn't go back to putting it on a rack on the floor now that it's on a wall shelf.

Wall shelf is not allowed (the ol fish wife made that clear)

That's a shame. I have an LP12 with a wooden floor and a wall shelf is a must.

Precisely why I said 'a bouncy floor is no place for a buncy turntable'. Get one going and all Hell is let loose and that has been true of the majority of bouncy TT's I have used.

A solid TT lets you hear the footfall but doesn't go into spasms.

Depending on budget, the World is your oyster but you will need a decent, solid rack. What do you have ?

I have a 4 tier Podium Reference by hifi racks

That should do the trick.

I used to have a Michell GyroDec on a Target TT2 table on a suspended floor and footfalls would sometimes trip the DC offset protection on my amp. :mental:

To help against a bouncy floor you could also set the TT on an isolation platform like the Isokinetiks. These look quite cool as well.

Rega 3 obviously - and there are motor, arm wiring and belt upgrades out there now, many kosher, which will update the performance. Keep the support and isolation lightweight (balsa shelf on semi-squashballs or sorbothane works I remember, sat on your rack).

If you can find a good used Pro-Ject 2 for your budget, that's a goodie too and similar isolation recommendations apply.

I'm sure there's loads of others, but for £150?

If you can stretch your investment to £200 there is some candidates over at ebay.co.uk. This search will even give you some SL1210's for that price.

If you can pick it up after purchase, that might be the best as packing a TT requires some skill.

I've a Garrard 86SB mk11 available. In remarkably good condition.
Rescued from a loft where it had been stored for many years.
£37 collected. This would leave you a bit of cash to upgrade the original cartridge.

You could get a decent lenco for 150 and upgrade it when funds became available be far better than the Rega if you put it in a decent plinth and get it working correctly

Can you make or buy a simple shelf and screw it to the wall just above the rack? Put it up whole the Mrs. is out ;)

Having just performed extensive mechanical surgery on a mechanically similar (apart from the drive) AP76, if anyone gets one of these underated decks, PLEASE don't force the speed change mechanism and even use the deck until the pivoting linkages have been freed off (not with WD40 either) and the trip pawl on the auto-cam has been properly cleaned and re-fitted. Get these things sorted mechanically and re-wired from deck to amp and the "AP,SL and Zero" Garrards (including the 86 models) actually sound pretty decent with something like an AT120E (440MLa?) and similar "kind" MM types tracking at around 1.5g fitted. Surpsingly good in fact, covering their tracks very well - sweet toned and airy in presentation. They do need some work on them usually, but having stripped out my first AP76 forty years ago this summer (YIKES!!!!!), I was keen to try one again...
