Hi everyone,
I have spent several hours going through some of the 1000's of posts and am getting lost I must admit:scratch:
Here is my dilemma; I know I am getting somewhere on my road to audio perfection (within reason):)
I have some money to spend on wringing the best possible sound out of my kit. But where do I start?
I have read you start at the beginning. My beginning is my generator; I live in a motorhome;) So I have a 1kw Clarke Petrol Gen with some thick mains hook up cable going to my hook up. I then have a £20 6 way surge protector with half a metre cable. Connected in to that is my 19v AC adapter for my Medion Akoya 18.4 " Laptop. A £30 5m USB Cambridge Audio cable connects to my Cambridge Audio DacMagic Plus. There have been no mods to this, it's all completely standard.
I have a Cambridge Audio Dig Coax cable connecting the digital out of the DacMagic to the digital coax no.1 connector of my Caiman 7520SE Gatorised DAC. The headphone socket of that gives a sweeter sound. I then have my Audeze LCD2 headphones plugged in; they too, are unmodified.
The Caiman is 2 months old, the DacMagic Plus is 2 weeks old, the Audeze LCD2's are 4 weeks old.
I have been looking with interest at Fidelity Audio, who are modders. Does anyone have any experience of using them?
I have sent Brett a number of e mails. He will be able to upgrade both the Caiman and the DacMagic Plus.
The DacMagic Plus gives a lovely sound through speakers on stands, but the headphone socket lets it down very slightly when compared to the Caiman. If you had £500 or so to spend, where would you place your money to achieve the best sonic improvements?
