Err... yeah.

I'm not sure if Wigwam has gone down again with another crazy server error or something but I've been trying to log on there for the last few days and it says I've been banned and the ban will 'never' be lifted!!! :scratch:

I've not done owt wrong.. I've not even posted on there for ages. Has anyone got this rather silly error?

Sorry to bring this up on AOS.

Hi Joe,

Try clearing all your cookies and then log in again and see what happens. If, when you try and log in again, it still comes up with 'You've been banned, etc', then there are only two possible reasons:

1) They meant to ban someone else, and you've been banned by mistake. It can happen on the admin panel, with a slip of the mouse.

2) You've definitely been banned, but they haven't told you the reason yet.

I doubt it's the latter, so I'm afraid all you can do is wait for an answer from whoever it was you contacted :)

I mean, what's the point in joining a specialist forum about hi-fi and then spending ones time writing utter bollocks about unassociated shit like politics, shaving etc. Some people actually post the majority of their content entirely about such fatuous issues (not so much on this forum I don't think). I think the AOB section of all hi-fi forums could, very usefully, just be deleted.

With regard to the main content of this thread, it does sound like you have been actively banned (rather than a logging-in issue).

I don't post on the Wam all that much, but I've never encountered a problem with logging in (before or after the recent forum change). If you do wish to correct this problem, I suspect you will have to contact the moderation team.

I had 2 weeks in the sin bin due to one of the mods wrongly assuming I had done something wrong, turns out it was someone else who had committed the sin!

I have not been in the tent for a long time now, far too many people waiting to take a pop at me for no good reason whatsoever, I was also accused of "shilling" How can one's enthusiasm of a product be misconstrued as shilling , but they did. Many members and other mods noticed this too, nevertheless it still happened, so I just stay away now.

Yes, guys, but I think you're missing the point.

AoS is more than merely a hi-fi forum; it's a community of real people, some of whom we consider as friends, and so the off-topic area provides the opportunity for members to interact with each other, as friends, who often have more in common with each other than simply a love of hi-fi and music!

Therefore, the off-topic area is somewhere where people can share their problems, and in turn often get very good advice, or receive a Happy Birthday message, or discuss something non-audio related of mutual interest, often in a way which strengthens the sense of community spirit we have worked hard to create here, and so for many, quite rightly, AoS means much more to them than being merely a hi-fi forum.

If you haven't grasped that very important aspect of AoS, then I'm afraid you've missed a very large part of what we stand for........

I 'grasp' the idea that AoS is a community - I just don't see how it is any more true than it is for any other forum (surely everyone who posts on a forum is a real person, what makes one person more 'real' than another? I've actually met more of the people that post on pfm, does that make it a community, if not, why not (I've probably met more contributors to the Wam than I have those who post here - does that make AoS less of a community to me)? I realise you have the 'Introduce yourself' section of the forum, but speaking for myself, I rarely read any of it.

Sure, Mark, I get what you're saying.

However, I think it's no accident that people often say that AoS is the friendliest of all the main audio forums, both in the UK and abroad, which while being as unbiased as possible, is something I agree with. And the chilled-out and friendly vibe we create here, much of it derived from the emotive discussions that often take place in Abstract Chat, where people 'give' personally of themselves in a way which simply isn't possible when talking about hi-fi (I often feel that I know people more from what they write that isn't about hi-fi, than from what they do that is), is a big reason why our members feel the way that they do about AoS! ;)

And we wouldn't have it any other way. What you seem to want is a cold and dispassionate 'bulletin board', where one can simply post about hi-fi, and not get involved with people on a personal level, which is fine. However, AoS will never be like that (pfm is rather like that, I feel, but perhaps that's how Tony likes it?) However, the atmosphere here will always be 'warm & cosy' and welcoming, just like chatting to some friends in your local pub, whether the discussion centres around hi-fi, music, or what's happening with your favourite football team :cool:

Many members share interests other than music and to prevent us talking/posting/interacting about anything except music does seem a bit churlish to me.
Those that only want to interact about music have no need to open that thread so why try to prevent others doing so?? - spoilsports!! :lol:

I like the cosy pub style chat we have here. True, PFM is rather clinical in lots of ways hence I don't really post there any more. Also I find it to be very Naim heavy which is great but it's not for me.

To have a place where you know you can ask anything and not get shot down with laughter is really nice and it's a way to get to know people and learn about stuff at the same time. A great jumble of characters.

For me the potential for misunderstanding or completely wrong interpretation is quite high. I hate to insult other people unintentionally, and of course I don’t also like to be offended.

IMHO, with very few exceptions, everyone on here is very friendly, reluctant to take offence and very aware that our members who do us the favour of communicating with us in a language that is not their native tongue, (although I have to say your command of the 'official' English language is excellent), so I'm sure you will not be 'jumped on' if you do post something that doesn't 'come across' as you intended it.
The best way to familiarise yourself with our slang, sense of humour, nuances etc. is to get stuck in - post away, use smilies if you need to emphasise that you are being humourous and join in - I for one value reading your points of view and I'm sure many others do also.

Reminds me of an evening a few years ago in a music club in Vienna, where I met Marc Ribot, a French jazz guitarist. While entering the artist’s wardrobe, I loudly said “Bon soir” (good evening). Obviously Marc and his musicians were happy to meet someone speaking their language, so Marc replied in French until I had to stop him: “Sorry, the three words in your language I know are gitanes (“gypsy”, for nearly 40 years my favourite French cigarette brand with black tobacco), l’amour (love) and bon soir.” Marc said that was just everything one needs to know to be able to enjoy a good life in France :-)

I totally get what you're saying, but like others have said, your English is very good indeed, so you have no worries whatsoever on that score!

With regard to the bit I wrote, which you've quoted.... I simply meant that you often get to know who people are much more from what they write about non-audio related matters, than you do from what they write about hi-fi. Therefore, as AoS prides itself on the community spirit it has created, it's good to know what makes people 'tick', as it were :)

We have worked very hard to give AoS a warm and friendly atmosphere, from small things like the visual appearance of the site, and the colours used, to the content itself, and most importantly of all, the nice people and many different types of personalities it attracts!

We're also the only UK-based audio forum to have bothered acknowledging that it's Christmas, by having designed a banner to celebrate the occasion, so our message to everyone is to leave the killjoys and the 'bah humbug' brigade to their own devices, and come and join in the fun, banter and camaraderie on AoS... Merry Christmas, everyone! :christmas:

In modern english, a wardrobe is a rather confined cupboard space to enter let alone house a group of musicians unless they were midgets, but I suspect you meant dressing-room..:doh:. however at least it was spelled correctly as always..... Your english is generally excellent :D

1. A summary of the clothes someone is wearing.

2. The room where clothes are stored, and also the room used to changes clothes. In theaters or music clubs this is called “Künstlergarderobe”, which I translated directly to “artist’s wardrobe”.

No idea Marco... Well, still a bit shady in regards to the reason. The only thing I can think of was that I posted a wanted ad for a mobile phone but forgot that the forum was for hifi only.

They sent me an email saying the post had been removed which was fine and totally correct within their rules but they didn't say I would be banned for it, therefore I'm not sure if this was the reason (which I doubt) or just a misunderstanding/error/trigger happy with the red 'Banned' button.
