I am selling my Cayin SP-10a which has a very nice wood finish. Now It comes in Walnut and Cherry but I'm buggered if I know which it is. I've seen both woods come out as either light or dark.

Here's a pic of each of them but which is which?

Anyone knowledgeable in wood colours care to take a look and tell we which is which.

Well to my untrained eye, Cherry at the top and Walnut at the bottom ;)

My equally untrained eye agrees.

That's my opinion too, but what about a trained eye. I know there are a couple of wood experts on AOS (just cant remember who)

I was being subtle and kind, as I suspect Keith was too ...... but it is Cherry at the top and Walnut at the bottom.

But hey, don't take our word for it walnut wood stain colors (http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=walnut+wood+stain+colors&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=MB_uTuynHoPo8QOKwvCPCg&ved=0CI8BELAE&biw=1920&bih=991)

Tim, Subtle and Kind are lost on me, you should have tried being more positive and less modest that way it wouldn't have sounded like a bit of a guess.

Looking at your link that emphasises my point that there is a huge variety of shades from very light to very dark. Do the same search substituting Cherry for Walnut and you get an almost identical mix of colours (at least to my genuinely untrained eye)

However I bow to all your collective wisdom with thanks. Cheers guys.

Can't argue with that Ian, as a stain will vary wildly depending on many factors, not least the wood it is applied too. However, if you have a manufacturer with two products described as Cherry and Walnut finishes (as you have in this case), then it's a little clearer IMO :)

I guess my wink was a little too subtle :eyebrows: but we got there in the end.

Good luck with the sale.

Yes. But, with all his driving back and forth to gigs, he doesn't have time to pull over and answer questions such as this. :eyebrows:
