Looking for a new speaker, to Rock music

Just sold my tannoy monitor gold 15"
And now looking for a new small speaker, with good bass need
Most of my music is rock.
My amp is croft micro 25RS/ series 7

Small boxes and good bass don't go I'm afraid, as small boxes either have no bass at all, have bass but don't go loud enough or have what I call "stunt bass" which is neither truthful in timbre or powerful enough...

Try some vintage Spendors (SP1's) or Harbeths (hardly ever available used, but Compacts or early HL's may be around) for something not too small but with a warmth of tone that work a treat with the Crofts...

As Dave says, small speakers don't do bass ;)

However you could get some nice speakers that don't really do bass but go loud & add a subwoofer which could be hidden away. In all honesty it'd be the route I'd take knowing what I know now & assuming I was forced to use small main speakers :)

Depends on what you call ' small ' I suppose. As Dave has said, small speakers don't do bass and volume, though the Acoustic Energy AE1 made a very good stab at it.

If you can accomodate something a bit larger, take a look at JBL and Cerwin Vega both new and vintage.

I am afried like everyone has hinted at to get decent rock from speakers you need biggish speakers subs will certainly help I used to use Silverline SR17 and they gave quite good sounds for rock but in the end I just missed to much info in the lower regions

Given that you have just sold 15" gold's pretty much anything could be considered small. On the basis that they would have sold for a reasonable amount then a sensible budget should still get you some decent bass.

IMO two to look at would be (2nd hand)

Acoustic Zen Adagio (about £1,500)

or if you don't want to pay that much

Leema Xaviers (about £800)

Both are truly excellent speakers and deliver a goodly amount of bass and well suited to rock music.

Of course there are other similar sized speakers that will deliver equally good bass but imo ANYTHING smaller than those then as others have said you need to look at supplementing with a sub.

You might take a look at the KEF Q300 which does -3dB at 42 Hz and can rock.
