This is a highest quality universal player that plays just about anything.

Edit to add another picture taken just now while making a player region free and updating firmware:
http://i759.photobucket.com/albums/xx234/server9/forum-pictures/Oppo-95-IMG_0802.jpg
(technical details of the photo for those interested:Canon 60D DSLR and a 90mm lens handheld/resting on the table, 1/5 second, f6.3 at ISO 400 with 1 and 2/3 stops underexposure to preserve the blackness of the front panel)
You can see from the display that the OPPO 95 has a network connection, HDMI output 1 is active and a DVD is playing the Root menu.
This machine is on its way to a forum member later today and will be in his rack tonight :)

Yes & I'm enjoying it's wonders right now
Frankly I'm gobsmacked, it trounces everything on BD playback I have come accross & DVD upsampling.
The audio side of it is phenominal to, merry xmas to me :rfl:
Was a pleasure dealing with you Mark as it was previously :) Merry xmas to you & yours!
I don't ever think I have been happier parting with my money, at the time it hurt a bit, but now.... :D

Pretty damn good I guess!
Put it like this, the player itself appears to be improving on the picture side of things, it can't be the HDMI cable as that's seen lots of action ;)
So if the video side is burning in so to speak I guess the audio side is to..
I'm more than happy with the audio quality, I don't think I have spun anything more than once to see if that is improving though - just spinning it's first DVD-A now :)

I have a bit music playing right now..stereo:D..I think it needs a bit of time to settle in;)

There is a new firmware on the OPPO website to download, or plug your OPPO into your router/connect the wi-fi dongle and follow the on screen instructions to update.

Hmmm, looks like I'm going to have to update mine if I intend to watch Fringe season 3 :eyebrows:
I'll plug the thing in later, hit update & see what happens ;)

Well that was as painless as I could ever imagine :eyebrows:
Plugged the player into the homehub, switch on the TV & the player & there was a nice display saying there is new firmware, do I want it? Hit enter & it was all over & done with :D
Cheers for the heads up Mark

Look in the manual John, it just says to make sure than nothing is connected into the USB port & no disc should be inserted when updating ;)
There is no mention of resetting to factory specs, though I'm sure this could be done but I don't think I'd want to as watching Fringe season 3 looks like it'd be problematic :(

If you reset to factory specs then yes you'd need to as it'd be as new when you bought it & any updates (such as those we downloaded today) will be wiped...

Yes well you have to do a factory reset every time their is a firmware update;)

Apologies for thread crapping, but this is doing my head in :eyebrows:
John, where in the manual for the BD95 does it say this?
Firmware is like a windows update, it's a slight change to the programming - well it's what I thought it was at any rate (though I refuse certain windows offerings)... So if you reset the thing every time you get rid of previous updates, do you want to do that?
Honestly?
Or am I a country mile out here :eyebrows:

8. Important final step: From the set-up menu, select Device Set-up, Reset Factory Default, and then choose OK to reset the player settings. Enter your customized settings as necessary after resetting.

Have a look on this link and scroll down and look for the red text that says "Important final step":
http://www.oppo-bluray.co.uk/customer-services/firmware/
The new firmware does not fully load until a 'reset to defaults' has been done from the setup menu, only takes a minute to reset and accept the set up menus again.

Very nice indeed, though I'm using the balanced outputs. I don't suppose there would be very little difference between them & the single ended outputs at the end of the day.
As a CD player it's very capable indeed, remarkably so as it happens :) I reckon it would probably out perform my Theta transport & Monarchy Audio DAC :D

I thought I'd revisit this thread as things appear to be a tad different now.
I purchased the Jurassic Park trilogy on blu ray & it refused to get past a certain point in the menu. Having looked about it appears it was down to the English versions of the BDs. I figured there must be some new firmware, so plugged the Oppo into my hub, presto...
Downloaded new firmware, did whatever it does & then the player told me it was going to switch off to complete the installation - which it did quite promptly :eyebrows:
Turned it back on & it played all the discs perfectly. None of the previous messing about needed, that's what I call a sensible update :D
Dontcha just luv it when a plan comes together... :D

Hey Mark,
Have you seen the Modwright valve mods for the BDP-95?

Well that's how I'd have planned it, glad they came to the same conclusion
On a different note I had BT Infinity installed today. Looks like I'll be able to plug the Oppo in permanently to my hub when I get the new cable exactly where I want it, but at least it's working & it's fast!

Looks interesting & no I haven't :)
Unfortunately it's not something I could really contemplate, those nice glowing tubes sticking out of the top would take up too much rack space
Well I reckon at any rate
:hmm:
