Hey all,

As the season of fat tummies and rubbish TV beckons, was wondering if you had any recommendations for decent concert gig or gig movies i could check out?

On Saturday nt, Mrs R and I settled in with an old DVD of Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense movie. We hadnt seen this in years and recalled how much i loved the concept of the concert set being built around the band as the show went on, and who can deny David Byrne's jerky magnificence was only magnified by the progressively larger suits he appears in. The energy of the band really comes across and everyone appears to be having a great time. Some classic tunes to boot.

I'm more inclined towards the rock end of the specturm than classical stuff but any good jazz or prog performances might also go down well too. As much as i love the Floyd I fear Mrs R might throw a hissy fit if i put on Live in Pompeii or Pulse one more time!!

Cheers

If you like Mr Byrne then might I recommend 'live at union chapel', very interesting use of a string section in place of the keyboards...'life during wartime' is a real treat.

Cream's 2005 reunion gig at TRAH is very well shot and recorded.

Kraftwerk's 'Maximum/Minimum' has probably the best 5.1 soundtrack I've heard from a live gig

Mogwai 'Special Moves' DVD is also excellent, B&W but shot very well

Dave Gilmour's 'Just One Night' is worth a watch, particularly C&N doing the DSOTM backing vocals, and Mr Bowie singing Arnold Lane

That'll do for now...:)

I like all Will's selections, especially the David Gilmour RAH gig.

One of the best music DVD's I have bought recently is Joe Bonamassa live at the Albert Hall - fantastic. It's on CD, DVD and Blu-ray.

Something a little different and another favourite of mine is the Marillion 'Less is More' gig from Cadogan Hall.

Not rock, but IMO an absolute classic - Leonard Cohen, Live in London.

Re Kraftwerk Minimum Maximum - was fortunate enough to see them on this tour at Brixton, I'd waited 20years for that gig and they were fantastic.
